Conferences are scheduled for this week Wednesday and Thursday from 3:30 - 7:00. Wednesday's meetings have already been scheduled. If you didn't receive an email from us through Sign-Up Genius, we didn't need to meet with you. If you would like to talk with us, please join us between 3:30 - 7:00 for a 10-15 minute meeting. This is a first-come, first-served format. We will be meeting in room 8 (Mrs. Crockett's room). There will be a sign up sheet so that we can stay organized.
PTO News
During conferences, look for the PTO table, where we will be holding a snack drive to stock the counselorโs supply for students in need, selling candy bars to help fund the Step Up dance, and weโll have stickers and key rings available for purchase.

Classroom Information
๐ Language Arts ๐
๐ This week we will begin The Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress (M-STEP). This state assessment is used to assess student progress on Michiganโs standards. M-Step is administered each spring to students in grades 3-8. Student performance is described as one of four levels: not proficient, partially proficient, proficient, and advanced.
๐งก What Parents Can Do to Help Students Prepare:
Make sure that your child is well rested and eats a healthy breakfast.
Talk to your child about testing: Let them know that assessment is a regular part of learning. Make sure they understand why they are being tested and how it is important.
Keep state tests in perspective: Reduce your childโs anxiety about the test by reminding them that it is just one measure of learning, and another way to find out where their academic strengths and weaknesses are. Remind them of what they do well, and how they have improved with effort.
Encourage them to simply do their best.
โโ Math โ๏ธโ
There is no homework this week!
In math, we are reviewing 5th grade concepts by competing in The Amazing Race! Students have teams that they will work with to complete math problems and challenges throughout the next couple of weeks. This is a fun way to prepare for the upcoming state assessments.

๐บ๏ธ Social Studies ๐ฉโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ
Last week we finished the Social Studies M-STEP and started a new chapter called The First Presidents. On Friday, April 19th we will be taking a short vocabulary quiz. The flashcards are attached.
๐ Read 180 ๐
We are getting back into the swing of things with the READ 180 student computer app! Students will be asked to log a total number of minutes in the app while in class. Students will then receive a grade based on how much time they are actively participating in the app. Students will be given more than enough time to complete this in class, however they must use their time wisely. This is one grade that students will not be able to make up at a later date.
