Windermere Weekly Update
August 12 - 16, 2024
It was great to see all of you at Meet the Teacher on Friday. Thanks for coming out! We're so excited to get this year kicked off and welcome students back on Tuesday.
First Day of School
- Tuesday, August 13th
- Tardy bell rings at 7:35am.
- Parents may walk students to their classroom on this first day only. You'll say goodbye to your child in the hallway and let them walk into class. (After the first day, parents will be asked to say goodbye outside the building. We are working hard to ensure your child is safe every day at WES.)
- Ensure that your child's teacher knows how they will be getting home from school and if it's different on the first day from the usual routine.
- Pack your child a lunch or put money in your child's lunch account (link at bottom).
- There will be a lot of traffic the first week of school. Please plan plenty of time and show patience as we work to get everyone safely to and from school.
NEW! Breakfast in the Classroom
We're so excited to announce that this year we'll be having breakfast in the classroom for all Kinder - 5th grade students. Students will not go to the cafeteria but instead will go straight to their classroom and breakfast will be brought to their hallway where they will pick it up. Once again, this year, breakfast is free for every student!
Arrival & Dismissal Information
We pride ourselves on having the most efficient arrival and drop off procedures in the district! That being said, the first day/week can lag a bit as everyone gets used to things again. Have patience with us. Ask your child's teacher or call the front office if you need clarification on any procedures.
Please read the information attached and view the map so you know exactly how everything works for arrival and dismissal. We have 2 locations divided by grade levels, so make sure to view the info. Practice with your child so they know how to unbuckle themselves since we ask parents to stay in their vehicle. We will have staff on hand to help assist in the event that a student can't unbuckle themselves.
A FEW VERY IMPORTANT THINGS ABOUT DROP OFF:
- DO NOT DROP OFF IN THE PARKING LOT - we ask that if you want to park in the parking lot that you walk your child across the crosswalk. Do not let your child out of the car in the parking lot to walk across alone.
- DO NOT DROP OFF IN THE BUS LOOP - the bus loop is for buses and parents to drop off/pick up students who have special needs. The parents who are authorized have a different car tag than everyone else.
- DO NOT PARK IN THE BUS LOOP - again, the bus loop is not intended for this purpose. We have parking lots on either side of the building and the bus loop needs to remain clear.
******If you did not receive one at meet the teacher, car rider signs will be passed out all next week. Please use them as soon as you get them to keep the car rider lines moving efficiently. Starting the second week, cars without signs will be asked to park and you will need to go into the front office with an ID to sign out your child.
Dismissal Form
If you have not already done so, please click on your child's grade level and let us know how they will be getting home everyday.
New Security System In Place
This was completed the last couple of weeks of school last year, but in case you missed it...
You will no longer be able to enter the office without being buzzed in. The outside door to the building that has always been unlocked during the day will still be unlocked. When you enter the vestibule, you will turn to the window on your left. Push the button which will alert someone that you're there. Depending on your need(s) you'll either be asked to wait in the vestibule or you'll be buzzed into the office. This is a state and district mandated safety upgrade. We apologize for the inconvenience, but ultimately it is designed to be a stop gap for anyone trying to enter the building that shouldn't. At the end of the day, we will do any and everything we can to keep our students and staff safe.
Outside still unlocked
Turn left & walk to the window
Push the blue button
