FAFSA Support
The "new" FAFSA this year has definitely brought challenges to many students and families seeking federal financial aid. The main problem being, the form itself is not working properly. Did you know FSA Outreach has a YouTube channel with videos to help you understand FAFSA? They also have a new video to help you understand the information seniors will receive after they submit the FAFSA application. This video is called "Understanding the New FAFSA Submission Summary". Click on the FSA Outreach photo to the left to check out the available FAFSA videos.
THE FAFSA IS OPEN!!!
Where do I start?
ALL seniors considering college should fill out the FAFSA (federal financial aid) and the Oregon Promise (state financial aid for community colleges.) If you are planning to attend a 4-year college, we still urge you to complete the Oregon Promise as insurance just in case your plans change.
Step 1:
Create your FSA ID (A student creates one and a parent creates one, too.)
- The student and the parent cannot use the same email or phone number in the FAFSA.
- Be sure to save your sign-in and passwords, for both accounts, and carefully save them since you will reapply every year you are in college.
https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch
Step 2:
Complete your FAFSA or ORSAA (for Oregon students without a social security number)
If you are not sure which form to do, go to the FAFSA/ORSAA Filter Tool.
- Both the student and the parent will complete a section and sign electronically with the FSA ID created above.
- Note: You will be completing the FAFSA 2024-25 form and will use 2022 tax information.
- PARENTS: You will have 45 days to complete your application once your student completes theirs. If you miss this window, the student will have to start over
Below are some additional resources about FAFSA/ORSAA:
- [VIDEO] What Is FAFSA®?
- [VIDEO] Who Is a Contributor on the 2024–25 FAFSA® Form?
- FAFSA/ORSAA Information
- Handy FAFSA checklist- print and use to complete the FAFSA
Countdown to the Oregon Promise Grant Deadline
1. Complete the Oregon Promise application by June 1
2. Complete the FAFSA or ORSAA by June 1
Remember, seniors must have a 2.0 GPA or better and plan to attend an Oregon Community College in the fall. There is no second chance to go back later to apply for these funds!!
