Note from our Principals
Hello Waubesa Families,
Just like that the weather has given us a quick reminder that it’s winter. Snow days can be exciting and stressful all at the same time as everyone quickly shifts gears for a day off. Thank you for your patience and understanding with the difficult snow day decisions.
Transitioning back into school routines after winter break can traditionally take time and with the additional snow days, it’s likely to take more time. We’d ask that you continue to support your student(s) school transition by providing as much at-home school routine as possible (i.e. predictable bed times, 20-30 minutes of reading, screen time limits, etc.). Please be aware that when talking to students, many of them have reported to staff that they stay up well after their parents/guardians thought they had gone to bed.
Looking ahead, the first semester is coming to an end on January 25. Report cards will be accessible during the week of January 29; a message will be sent informing you they’re available and how to access them in Infinite Campus.
We’d also encourage you to review the “Student Services” section below in the newsletter that highlights how our awesome counselors and student services team are teaching our students about relationships, conflicts and bullying.
Please reach out if you have any questions.
All the best!

Winter Weather Recess Guidelines
As a reminder please make sure your students have proper gear for outside. This would include but not limited to a coat, boots, mittens, hat, etc. It is suggested to have a back up pair of socks and/or shoes in their cubby if needed. An additional pair of pants could also be helpful if needed. The office can not provide gear or additional clothes for students who occasionally forget the essential items or dirty them during recess. If you are in need of gear for winter please email Emily Gierl our School Social Worker at Gierle@mcfsd.org.

Worth Repeating
Updates to Attendance Reporting:
- 8:00-8:05 am- student is not marked absent or tardy, "free pass"
- 8:05-8:25 am- student is marked tardy excused or tardy unexcused
- 8:25 am- student will be marked according to their reason for absence, ex:) parent request, ill, medical, etc. Without parent/guardian communication the student will be marked unexcused.
Arrival times:
- We have made the decision to keep the main doors of the school closed until 7:20 am. Prior to this we opened them at 7:00 am. This change is being made due to behavior issues in the vestibule. Breakfast will continue to be served at 7:25. Please contact the office if you have any concerns. Thank you for understanding.
Departure:
- Supervision for students will end at 3:15pm. If a student is still on school grounds without transportation home the office staff will begin calling the student's emergency contacts.

District News
Be SMART Campaign
The Be SMART campaign was launched to raise awareness that secure gun storage—storing guns locked, unloaded and separate from ammunition—can save children’s lives
“Be SMART” and take these simple steps to help prevent shootings by children:
Secure all guns in your home and vehicles
Model responsible behavior around guns
Ask about the presence of unsecured guns in other homes
Recognize the role of guns in suicide
Tell your peers to be SMART.
This simple act of keeping guns unloaded, locked, and separate from ammunition can help keep our
children, teachers, staff, and community safe.
Visit https://besmartforkids.org/ for more information about this important topic.
Save The Date
The community is invited to join the McFarland Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Coordinator (DEIB), Brittany Brazzel, for a learning session about the District’s Speak Up tool and commitments to addressing and interrupting harmful language and hate speech.
