Message from the Superintendent
We continue to evolve the plans for next year, incorporating feedback from surveys and focus groups. Now it's time to make decisions so we may develop the details for each school in preparation for returning in less than two months.
The leadership team will be presenting the framework with updated scenarios at the School Board meeting on Monday, July 20. Included in the update will be a new proposal for elementary schools, LO Online, and start of school. We anticipate the middle and high school scenario will remain the same as what was shared earlier this week. Further explanation will be provided in more detail at the meeting.
Each day and hour we are recalibrating the plans based on evolving information. What remains the same is our commitment to ensuring the health and safety of our teachers, staff and students. We will not bring people back to school in person unless it is safe to do so. The public health conditions at this point are the barrier to in-person learning. We will continue to monitor the conditions, and will consider the status of fully remote teaching and learning.

IMPORTANT: Please type “7/20/20 Testimony” in the subject line and include your name in the body of the email. Names of patrons providing input will be read during the meeting and their written testimony will be posted online under the agenda item for which their testimony pertains to. Testimony will be posted online at the conclusion of the meeting.
Covid-19 Case or Outbreak Response Plan
When a case of Covid-19 in our learning community is brought to our attention, LOSD will work with public health officials on our course of action, which could possibly include testing, quarantining and fully remote teaching and learning.
Rumors are running rampant about people in our community testing positive for Covid-19. If public health authorities notify LOSD of a confirmed case, we will communicate that news to our community. If you do not hear from LOSD, it means public health has not notified us.
Cleaning and Disinfecting Protocols
Between morning and afternoon in-person cohorts, electrostatic disinfectant hand-held equipment will be used at each facility to allow custodial staff to rapidly clean building surfaces and sanitize high contact areas. Additionally, disinfectant spray with microfiber cloth will be available in every classroom.
During the evenings, larger electrostatic disinfectant equipment will be used to clean and disinfect all surfaces, and routine cleaning will be conducted.
Each morning, custodial staff will conduct building air purging prior to teachers, staff and students occupying the building. LOSD is working with a building commissioning firm for guidance to optimize facility systems.
LO Online: Info Sessions and Registration
We're processing the community's feedback and exploring various options for our LO Online offering. More information will be available next week.
The information sessions have have been pushed back until the School Board approves the offering. We will send a message when the dates have been confirmed.
Middle and High School Schedule
There was some confusion about the middle and high school proposal. Following is a different explanation to help clarify it and below is a sample schedule:
- Students will have live teacher instruction every day -- two classes are in person at school, and two classes are online from home
- Students will take four classes a quarter, two alternating quarters for each class
- Students will have eight classes, full instructional time, for the year
- It's like the high schools' A/B, Blue/White schedule, but instead of alternating days students alternate quarters
- Middle school is adjusting the schedule for trimesters
- Once the framework is approved, principals and teachers will determine what classes are in person at school and what classes are online at home
- Below is a visual of a schedule
Engagement and Decision Making Dates
Roadmap to Reopening FAQ
Have questions? Please see the Roadmap for Reopening FAQ, which is posted on our website. The FAQ addresses more than 40 questions ranging from schedule considerations and facility usage to budget and decision-making.
Recreational Facilities Open Now
All outside facilities on school campuses, including fields, tracks, and courts, are open for school-related and individual recreational activities. Due to capacity constraints, campus use will be limited to students and authorized staff during school-related activities.
When Clackamas County enters phase 2, school playground equipment may be used at your own risk as the equipment will not be cleaned outside of school use. Also, the district indoor pool may open for lap swimming. We will share more about the district indoor pool opening and rules when we are certain of its opening.
Long Range Facility Planning Meeting
Thursday, July 23
4:30 - 6:30 p.m.

LOSD Offices Open By Appointment
Central Office and Student Services employees have returned to their offices this week and are available by appointment. All schools are currently closed. Please see the school website for summer hours and appointment days.
Verify Student Info Before Returning to School
LOSD needs parents/guardians of all students enrolled for the 2020-21 school year to log into ParentVUE and review/update your students' information through the Register/Verify tab. If you tried earlier, the ParentVUE link is working now. This benefits both families and schools by:
- Ensuring that schools have accurate information to reach parents and other contacts in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Verification is important even if your contact information has not changed over the past year because the school may have incorrect information from a previous year.
- Allowing parents to review the health conditions on file at your student's school.
- Enabling distribution of electronic devices covered by the district's Technology Agreement
Grab & Go Meals
