Emerson Update 03/01/24
Principal's Corner
Dear Emerson families,
Today our counselors went into the 7th grade science classes and began the scheduling process for their 8th grade course selection. Counselors would like those selection sheets by next Wednesday. A reminder that we have Parent/Teacher Conferences also on Wednesday, March 6 from 5pm to 8pm. Please, if you have questions about your student's current grade, please do not hesitate to reach out to their teacher ahead of conferences.
The wrestling team wrapped up their season with many individual wins and a few hard losses at the City Meet hosted by Franklin High School. Our girls basketball team will have their final game this Monday at Holmes. Our library crew was hard at work this week preparing for our book fair which kicks off next week as well.
It should be another great weekend to start thinking about warmer spring weather and prepping the yard. Please remember we are still in the midst of our flower fundraiser (see below) to help you prepare with some beautiful flowers.
With Eagle Pride,
Bruce Rivera
Principal

SCHEDULING NEWS
7th to 8th Grade Scheduling
Counselors came into classrooms on 3/1/24 to schedule all of our 7th grade students for their 8th grade year. Students will be bringing home a GREEN schedule sheet that parents should review with their student. These course selection sheets will determine the student's 8th grade schedule. These are due back, returned to their Science teacher, on Wednesday, March 6th. Failure to turn this in by the due date, will result in students not getting their most desired classes.
World Language Selection for 8th graders: PLEASE READ.
As 7th graders choose their classes for next year, please note that a full year of World Language (Spanish, French, or German) is an option for them. This is a HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL CLASS. This class covers the same curriculum as the high school level 1 class. Nightly homework, nightly studying, and strong academic skills are strongly encouraged. A "C or better" in ALL core classes is strongly recommended. Please discuss with your student if taking a high school class as an 8th grader is the right choice for them. Successful completion and passing of this class will earn 1 full high school credit.
Band is opening a brief online shop for Emerson Band shirts. A portion of each purchase will be donated back to our instrumental music program.
The shop closes on March 1st, and orders will ship directly to the customer.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR
Dear Families:
Get ready! The Scholastic Book Fair is coming our way (YAY!). Choosing their own books empowers kids and inspires them on their journey to becoming lifelong readers. AND—as always—every purchase at the Fair benefits our school.
Here’s what you need to know about the big event, which opens in our library on March 1st and closes March 8th at 9:00 am.
Say goodbye to cash and hello to eWallet—Scholastic’s digital payment account system. Before the Fair, set up eWallet for worry-free, cash-free purchases. Anyone can contribute! Share each child’s eWallet so friends and family can add funds and give your kids more books to enjoy.
If you can’t make it to the Fair, then shop at our school’s Book Fair online. All orders ship directly to your home, and shipping is free for book orders over $25. Every online purchase will also benefit our school.
Visit our Book Fair homepage to learn more and get started with eWallet and online shopping:
