ABOUT THE PROJECT
A few words about our eTwinning Project 'Beyond Stereotypes: Empowering kids through fairytales'
This was an inspiring eTwinning project that aimed to foster cultural understanding, promote inclusivity, and empower young minds by revisiting classic fairytales. This project wanted to challenge traditional stereotypes presented in these stories and encourage critical thinking among participating students. Through collaborative activities, students from different cultures analyzed, deconstructed, and reimagined fairytales, by exploring themes of gender roles, diversity, and societal norms. By delving into the narratives' deeper meanings, participants cultivated empathy, creativity, and a broader worldview, while co-creating new versions of these tales that reflect modern values and perspectives. Through this innovative eTwinning project, young learners embarked on a journey of self-discovery, cultural exchange, and storytelling, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and enlightened society.

Elsa
Gather round, children, and lend me your ear,
For a tale of adventure, so merry and dear.
Anna
In the land of green where the shamrocks sway,
Lived a leprechaun named Seamus or so they say.
With a twinkle in his eye and a hat of green,
Kathy
He danced through the meadows, happily and unseen.
With a pot of gold, hidden under a tree,
Seamus explored the land, wild and free.
Pilar
But one fine day, as the sun shone bright,
Seamus met a human, a curious sight.
With a smile so wide and eyes full of glee,
Arzu
The human cried out, "Come play with me!"
So off they went, through valleys and trees,
In search of treasure, around bushes and leaves.
Zelijana
They laughed and they sang, under the sky so blue,
Two friends on an adventure, just like you and me.
But as the day faded into the night,
Maria
Seamus knew it was time to leave.
For leprechauns must keep their gold out of sight,
And Seamus's pot shone in the moonlight.
Celina
With a hug and a promise, they were on their way
To the land of their dreams, where stories do live
For adventures may end, but memories stay,
Elsa
In the heart of a leprechaun, on Saint Patrick's Day.

Reimagining the roles of the tales' protagonists
This was a great activity as schools had to team up and discuss the roles of the protagonists! They tried to make them more entrepreneurial, ethical, powerful.
First we used a collaborative online board like this one where we added our students' ideas!
Then we read what the other teacher's class wrote on the board about their fairytale and we got to vote for their best suggestions (after discussing them in our own class teams) and they got to vote for ours!
Thererfore we all worked in transrnational teams!

A REVISED CINDERELLA
- We had an online session with a University professor, Ms Botonaki, who had revised and modernized the famous fairytale so that it goes against stereotypes.
- In their transnational teams, students identified and evaluated all the differences in the new version. Then, each team tried to make drawings of their own understanding of the characters
We used the collaborative app Canva.
