Dear Families,
As we approach this yearโs presidential election, we recognize itโs a significant moment for our nation, our communities, and most importantly, our students. During such times, students may have questions, strong emotions, or even concerns. As a district, weโre committed to supporting our students in a way that honors their perspectives, respects differing opinions, and encourages civil discourse.
Hereโs how weโre approaching this:
Open Communication
Teachers will create space for students to express thoughts or feelings about the election. These discussions will be age-appropriate and carefully guided, encouraging respectful listening and open-mindedness.Building Respectful and Inclusive Spaces
Respect is the foundation of our classrooms. Weโll remind students of our shared commitment to treating each other kindly and respectfully, regardless of differing beliefs. This experience is a valuable opportunity to learn and practice empathy, critical thinking, and respect for all voices.Addressing Heightened Emotions
We recognize that emotions may run high for many students. Our staff will be present throughout the school day to provide additional support, encourage reflection, and ensure that every child feels safe and valued.Encouraging Growth and Learning
This election offers a meaningful moment for learning about civic responsibility and the power of our voices. We want our students to know they can make a positive impact in their families, schools, and communities, no matter the outcome.Addressing Challenges Together
Some students may have concerns or questions about the election. Weโll listen to and validate their experiences, provide a supportive environment, and remind them that they are part of a caring school community.
We believe these conversations help our students become compassionate, informed, and engaged citizens. Our focus is not on beliefs but on behavior; we emphasize that regardless of views, we all have a responsibility to treat others with respect, dignity, and kindness.
If you have questions about how weโre approaching these discussions or would like additional resources to support your student at home, please feel free to reach out. Thank you for your partnership as we help our students grow into thoughtful, resilient, and respectful individuals.

RAHS Media Center
We understand that many students today face challenges related to mental and emotional well-being, which have become more pronounced in recent years. Itโs not always easy to know where to find help, but we want to assure you that our school community is here to support your child. We are fortunate to have a dedicated team of teachers, counselors, school social workers, student success coaches, and administrators who are committed to helping our students thrive.
In the Media Center, we offer not only a welcoming environment but also a range of resources tailored to support studentsโ well-being. Our staff is available to provide a listening ear, and we have curated a variety of books on topics such as mental health, making healthy life choices, and navigating personal challenges. Sometimes, a good book can provide the guidance or reassurance a student needs, and we have seen the positive impact this can have.
To help students easily find relevant resources, we have a dedicated display in the Media Center highlighting books that address these important topics. Additionally, you can search for titles on various subjects by visiting our catalog at rahsmedia.org by clicking on โBooksโ. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions, and know that weโre here to support your childโs journey every step of the way.

Testing
Attention ALL AP students:
If you are planning on taking the AP exam, but have not registered for it yet, you must do that ASAP. Once you create your College Board account and join the class, you must choose YES to take the exam. Last year, the exam was automatically added to your account. This year, it defaults to undecided so you must choose yes or no. If you need assistance, check with your AP teacher. Deadline to register for an AP exam is November 8th. After November 8th, you are charged an additional $40 to make any changes to your AP tests, adding or dropping. This includes if you drop the class second tri. There are no refunds after November 8th, because College Board charges us for the exams and any changes after that date. Starting November 11th, you should see your AP exam charge on your EduTrak account. AVID and Free & Reduced lunch students are not charged. Any problems or questions, email me at shaween.lawrence@isd623.org
If you are taking an AP class that doesnโt start until 2nd tri, you do not have to register or pay for that exam until 2nd tri. There is a different deadline for those classes. Any questions or problems, please email me at shaween.lawrence@isd623.org

Health Office and Attendance
Is My Child Well Enough to Come to School?
If your child has a fever of 100 degrees or more, they should stay home for 24 hours after the temperature returns to normal and remains normal without fever-reducing medication.
If your child has vomited or has diarrhea, they should stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
If your child had any rash that may be disease-related or the cause is unknown, check with your healthcare provider before sending them back to school.
If your child is ill, please call the school to report the illness. If you have questions regarding your child's illness, please call your school nurse at 651-635-1682 or healthcare provider.
It is OK to come to school if your student has a runny nose or little cough but no fever.
COVID Reminder: If your student tests positive for COVID, simply keep them home until they meet general wellness guidelines listed below. Please alert the attendance office each day of the absence by calling 651-604-1465 or emailing rahs-attendance@isd623.org.

COVID-19 Guidelines
If you have a respiratory virus (such as COVID-19, Influenza, or RSV):
- Stay home and away from others (including people you live with who are not sick) if you have symptoms that aren't better explained by another cause. These symptoms can include fever, chills, fatigue, cough, runny nose, and headache.
- You can go back to your normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both are true:
- Your symptoms are getting better overall, and
- You have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication).
- When you go back to your normal activities, we recommend taking added precautions over the next 5 days, such as: practicing enhanced hygiene practices, wearing a well-fitting mask, and/or testing when you will be around other people indoors.
- If you develop a fever or you start to feel worse after you have gone back to normal activities, stay home and away from others again until, for at least 24 hours, both are true: your symptoms are improving overall, and you have not had a fever (and are not using fever-reducing medication). Then take added precaution for the next 5 days.
RAHS Attendance
Please report all absences and attendance information to the RAHS Attendance Line (rahs-attendance@isd623.org or 651-604-1465).
Students Leaving School During the School Day
Please remember that if your child is not feeling well during the school day, they must check out through the Health Office. The Health Office needs to contact you for permission and write your child a pass to leave. If your child needs to leave for a planned appointment, the attendance office will give them a pass. Leaving the building without a pass from the health office or the attendance office will result in an unexcused absence.
