Weekly Inspiration
I hope each of you were able to take advantage of the opportunity to make someone happy last week. And that you were the recipient of someone else's act of kindness. Remember that you can find inspiration from anyone and anywhere. This week's message is relayed from OUR students about OUR teachers. Be the best part of your students' days!

Being a teacher is not just a profession or WHAT you do - it's a calling that requires passion, dedication, empathy, and a commitment to making a positive impace on the lives of others. So the next time someone asks you what do you do, please tell them truth and don't sell yourselves short.
Thank you for all that you do for our students, staff, community, and each other!

Ms. Underwood and the school counselors arranged an NCAA eligibility session during iPass. A representative from the NCAA spoke to our student athletes about eligibility at various level of the NCAA. Students also heard from Butler women's lacrosse coach. The students received valuable information.
Jeff Maupin
Southport High School’s wind ensemble had a joint concert at Purdue University with their band. Enjoy a video of the performances below.
EL Field Trip
Mrs. Ancelet, Mrs. Al Awahd, Ms Delgado, Ms. Mawi, and Mr. Wormann took their EL and sheltered students on a field trip last week. The students and staff had a great time and enjoyed the experience outside of the building.
Welcome 8th Graders at Football Signing Day
Coach Bettag and the SHS football staff welcomed our incoming freshmen at their signing day event. The students and their parents were able to meet coaches, tour the athletic facilities, and sign a letter of committment to the program.
The school counselors also put together a fantastic video to introduce themselves!
Thespian Troupe Field Trip
The thespian troupe took a field trip to IRT to see Little Shop of Horrors. The students had a great time watching a live performance show and they even enjoyed checking out the location for the upcoming prom. Thank you to the theater department for organizing this opportunity for our students.

Best of the Best: Jazz: This is the routine that scored the highest for us that the judges wanted to see again on day 2 to compete against other teams' routines. So our jazz routine competed against other teams' routines like hip hop, lyrical, pom, kick, and open. They did so well! They performed this one BETTER than day one and earned an Ultimate Star!

Ben Rhoades
Mr. Rhoades was reviewing station model parts with his Earth Space Science class so the students could correctly identify the information given by various weather station models. After the students completed their practice problems, they were able to design and create an informational document for Earth Day!
Jack Williams
Mr. Williams had his DC Pre-Calculus class on the hunt for treasure. The students were solving problems and searching the SHS campus to find the treasure. The pirates even played their parts by wearing the hats!
Amanda Schnepp
Mrs. Schnepp (aka vampire squid) is collaborating with Ms. Kohne in the LMC for the honors Biology evolution unit. Students came to the library to jigsaw a chapter from the book, World of Wonders, by Aimee Nezhukumatathil. The author combines memoir and informational writing to teach about the organism and the personal connection she has with the organism. For their final, students are writing chapters for a class book they are calling Wonders of Evolution. They will be writing in the manner of Nezhukumatathil and selecting an organism, writing about their personal connection to the organism, and then explaining the organism's common ancestry, evolutionary adaptation pieces, and how environmental pressures have affected their evolution. Science is fun!
Michelle Westerhouse
Ms. Westerhouse's students visited Clinton Young again and showed amazing mentorship, responsibility, and listening skills. After the trip, SHS students reflected on their experience. Several students shared that their self-confidence grew from the first visit to the second visit!
