Madison No. 1's Family Weekly News!
Week of 8/19/24:
Mission: "Madison No.1 ensures learning at high levels for all!"
Dear Amazing Madison No. 1 Families,
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents who attended our first PTO meeting this past week. We had an excellent turnout with 25 parents in attendance! Remember, even if you can’t make it to every meeting, we value your participation and want to help you stay connected to your child’s education.
Our Mission Statement: "Madison No. 1 ensures learning at high levels for all!"
Last year, our staff worked diligently on crafting a Mission Statement that reflects the core of what we strive to achieve at Madison No. 1. Our leadership team took the insights from our staff and turned them into a concise and memorable statement that guides our daily work. Our staff then reflected on that statement and came to consensus on this statement being the basis for the work ahead of us. Now we regularly emphasize this Mission during announcements and in conversations with students, reinforcing our expectation that all students, regardless of their program, demonstrate behaviors that promote high-level learning.
PBIS Assemblies and Student Engagement
This past Wednesday, we held our PBIS assemblies for each grade level. Our goal was to share the feedback we received from last year's parent and student surveys and set a positive tone for the school year. Students were encouraged to be open to feedback, just as our staff is committed to continuously improving and utilizing the feedback we received last year.
Here's a brief summary of the feedback we received:
- Engagement: Students mentioned feeling bored in class, wanting more opportunities to interact with peers.
- Relevance: Students expressed a need to understand how their learning applies to their future.
- Positive Reinforcement: There was a call for more consistent positive feedback for all students.
In response, our staff is committed to ensuring that:
1. Students hear about the relevance of the learning to their future.
2. Teachers will consistently use strategies to increase student interaction and engagement during lessons.
3. Every teacher will provide at least two positive recognitions per class, rewarding students who meet our school’s expectations.
We also demonstrated to students how they can earn "Wildcat Tickets" through positive behavior, which can in turn be redeemed for prizes here at school. We're thrilled with how focused and attentive our students have been so far as we have kicked off this school year on a positive note.
Upcoming Event: Curriculum Night
Don’t forget, our Curriculum Night is coming up on Tuesday, August 20th, at 5:15 pm. While students are welcome to join, we especially encourage parents to attend and hear directly from our teachers. We look forward to seeing you there! The evening will start in our Guided Study classrooms. The entire evening will go until approximately 6:45 pm.
Sincerely,
Johnny Brownlie
