Holly Ridge Middle Weekly Update
March 17th, 2024
Good afternoon Holly Ridge Middle School Families,
Greetings from your principal, Jennifer Newby.
We hope you are enjoying your St. Patrick’s Day!
Spring Break:
This week is the last week before we venture into spring break. My hope is that all of our Hornets can go into break knowing that they are on a good path toward achieving their goals for the spring. Please reach out if we can assist your student in accomplishing this!
Spring Break will begin at the conclusion of the instructional day on Friday, March 22nd. Our students work incredibly hard and push themselves to achieve goals. While I value that about them, I also strongly believe that it is equally important to periodically take the opportunity to rest, rejuvenate, and enjoy the company of friends and family.
I have communicated to staff that it is my expectation that no teacher assigns work over the break. Similarly, we have amazing teachers and staff who equally have earned a break. They are not expected to grade student work, respond to emails, etc. over the break. If you have any questions about this, please let us know.
Please note there will be no weekly message next Sunday, March 24th. Messages will resume after spring break.
Lost and Found:
Our lost and found in the cafeteria is overflowing. At the end of the week, we will clear it out and donate all remaining items. Many clothing items, water bottles, lunch boxes, and more are present. Please have your student check it out if they have lost an item. Thank you!
Parents of current 7th and 8th grade students:
Students in 7th and 8th grade will be participating in a Human Trafficking lesson, required by Wake County Public Schools, presented by the Counseling staff the week of April 1st- April 5th through their 1st elective class. 7th graders will receive the lesson on April 1st and 2nd during 3rd period elective and 8th graders will receive the lesson on April 3rd and April 4th during 2nd period elective. Attached is a letter about the program as well as an opt out form. Please turn in any opt out form to your child's homeroom teacher.
Thank you,
Mrs. Edwards- 7th grade Counselor

Attention Parents of Rising 7th and 8th Graders:
We will begin in-house Elective Registration for the 2024-2025 School Year beginning Tuesday, March 12th. During STING time on March 12th, students will listen to a registration video giving instructions on how to register for classes. After watching the video, they will complete registration for elective classes and submit their selections via Powerschool. Registration will remain open until Friday, March 22nd. Any student that has not completed registration by Monday, March 18th, will be pulled by the grade level counselor to make elective course selections.
