Planning Together
KCSD Community Subcommittees Continue Their Work
On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, dozens of administrators, staff, teachers, parents and community members who volunteered to contribute their time and talent to the KCSD educational planning committee, met for the fourth time to continue their work.
Six subcommittees formed in January to guide priorities for the five-year KCSD Education Plan, addressing curriculum, student support, technology, facilities, finance and operations, human resources and personnel, and communication. The goal of this effort is to work through protocols to analyze the recent survey and focus group data and determine priorities for district administration. Groups often break into even smaller groups to discuss key themes and share back with the larger groups.
Tuesday's subcommittees worked on identifying key goal areas based on the analysis of staff, parent, and community input and the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that data identified.
Four more committee meetings remain through May 13. The final Educational Plan covering five years will be complete and shared with the community and Pennsylvania Education Department this summer.

Habitat for Humanity Promotes Affordable Housing and Homeownership
On Saturday, March 8, Annabeth Drumm and Brinley Welch, from Bancroft Elementary competed in the Habitat for Humanity 22nd Annual Build a House…Build a Dream Contest. The contest is open to all 5th graders in the Delaware Valley area.
In this competition, students work individually or in teams to build their own three-dimensional, model dream home which they then bring on the day of the contest for judging by professional architects, engineers, and builders. Students may choose the materials used to build the house. Both Annabeth and Brinley chose to use cardboard to construct their houses. Annabeth’s 4-story house had a Harry Potter themed room and Brinley chose to landscape her 2-story house with trees and flower boxes. Both students were required to write an essay and present to judges.
The goal of the Build a House. . . Build a Dream Contest is to introduce the students to what Habitat for Humanity does as an organization. Although they aren’t able to help at the construction site yet, they can learn about the importance of affordable housing at a young age and what they can do in the future to help their neighbors in need.

Read Across America in Kennett
Schools Celebrate Reading
The week of March 3 was filled with spirit and a celebration of reading in Kennett Consolidated School District. Launched in 1998 by the National Education Association (NEA) and guided by a committee of educators, NEA’s Read Across America is the nation’s largest celebration of reading. The NEA reports that readers who feel included, recognized, and a part of the world are engaged readers.
At the Kindergarten Center, students and teachers spent an entire week fostering a love for reading with fun activities and daily spirit days. Each day, students dove into the magic of books through engaging read-alouds, creative literacy activities, and special surprises to bring stories to life. The highlight of the week may have been the opportunity to dress like your favorite book character (as pictured above)!
