Important Drop Off and Dismissal Information!
Morning Drop-Off and Afternoon Pickup
Welcome back families! We are very excited to welcome you to our meet, greet, and find your seat tomorrow from 5:15-6:00! If you are new to Dix Street, we have a new parent orientation from 4:45-5:15.
Throughout last year the morning drop-off worked well with a focus on student safety. Afternoon pick-up was efficient and safe with all students loaded into cars and sent on their way within 8 minutes. Based on the efficiency and safety of our pick up procedures as well as past parent survey data we will be keeping the same procedures in place for this school year. Please take a moment to review the procedures below before the start of school.
These procedures always take a little longer at the beginning of the school year, but if we are all working together and following the directions, things will run smoothly. Thank you for your patience!
Morning Drop-Off
- Parents who are dropping off may find a parking space and exit their car and walk their child to our "Hugs & Kisses Zone" outside the front doors of the building; staff will be available to assist with delivering your child to their classroom.
- Please pull to the right before allowing your child(ren) to exit your vehicle when dropping off at the curb. If we keep the left lane of the circle drive open, the back-up onto Dix St. will be minimized.
- If you must visit the office, we ask that you wait until the school day begins before entering the building.
- Please be safe and go slowly when driving through the parking lot.
Afternoon Pick-Up:
There will be two separate pick-up times to reduce the traffic on Dix St. and through the Dix Street parking lot.
Group #1- Young 5s & Kindergarten with NO SIBLINGS at Dix Street - Pick-Up 3:25 p.m.
Young 5s & Kindergarten students who DO NOT have a sibling attending Dix Street will be out front, ready to be picked up at 3:25 p.m.
Those picking up these Kindergarteners may enter the lot at 3:00 p.m. and park along the curb in the circle drive (this is the only time cars are allowed to park in the circle drive). (see map for Group #1 below)
Staff will escort Group 1 students starting at the west end of the circle and move around the circle drive to the correct car for pick-up.
Group #2-Young 5s & Kindergarten (with siblings at Dix Street), 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade and ALL sibling groups-Pick-Up 3:43 p.m.
Young 5s & Kindergarten (with siblings at Dix Street), 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th-grade students will be out front, ready to be picked up at 3:43 p.m.
When you arrive, please park on Dix St. to the east of the parking lot entrance. At your designated pick-up time, please drive slowly into the lot to pick up your child(ren).
The locations for the 3:43 p.m. pick-up are indicated on the map for Group #2 below.
- 1st-5th grade siblings of Young 5s and Kindergarten students will wait at the Young 5s/Kindergarten pick-up area at 3:43 p.m. (see map for Group #2 below).
- Sibling groups without a Young 5s or Kindergarten student (1st-5th grade only) will wait in their own designated pick-up area at 3:43 p.m. (see map for Group #2 below).
General Procedures
Only people who are picking up Young 5s and Kindergarten students with NO SIBLINGS at Dix Street may enter the circle drive beginning at 3:00 p.m.
While waiting for the Group #2 pickup, please line up on Dix St. east of the parking lot entrance. The line should go north on Brookside Dr. and then west on Hammond if necessary. If the line continues east of Brookside Dr., the line impedes traffic.
Please do not block any driveways while you wait.
We request that you do not park at the library and walk over, this sends a negative message about following procedures and respecting the library patrons. We also request that cars not park along Dix Street who are not waiting in line especially at the exit. This blocks the vision of traffic leaving the pick up line as they enter Dix Street.
Please pull to the right curb when you stop to pick up your child to keep them out of the driving lane.
For the safety of all, please do not exit your car during the afternoon pick-up.
Parents of students who require car seats may exit their vehicle to secure their child in the car seat. These students should only be a part of the kindergarten/Y5 pickup. If your 1st-5th grade student requires this please let the office know.
- ECSE families will be notified concerning pick-up specific to your child.
