School Safety Update- Friday, August 25
Dear Franklin Families,
As your school interim principal, there is nothing I take more seriously than the safety of our students, our staff, and our school as a whole. With this in mind, I’d like to take this opportunity to share information regarding the lockdown that occurred at Franklin Academy –Boynton Beach today, Friday, August 25, 2023.
This morning, a report at the school across the street that a student may have been in possession of a weapon on campus. Out of precaution, School Administration took immediate action to lock down our campus. During our lock down, PBSO received a report from an out of state number that an "incident shooting had occurred near our campus". After a comprehensive and extensive police-led investigation on our campus, the threat was deemed unfounded.
While I can’t share specific details on these incidents, I can confirm that we consistently follow the steps outlined in the School Safety Plan and Threat Assessment protocols in accordance with the laws, regulations and rules of the state, the district and our school. I want to reassure our families that proactive plans and procedures to protect our students and staff are in place and diligently followed.
In this age of instant and rapid sharing of information, the opportunity for misinformation and rumors to spread is amplified. The first priority during an emergency response is to secure the students, staff and school at large. Please rest assured that our parents will be alerted when there is ANY credible threat to the school.
The responsibility for keeping our students, staff and school safe is a top priority and all threats are taken very seriously and addressed in accordance with the Palm Beach County Code Book for Student Conduct. The staff and students did an amazing job today, I am so proud of all of them.
Your voice is a critical part in keeping our campus safe. Please take this opportunity to speak to your child about the importance of school safety and encourage your child to let a trusted adult know if a situation exists which could ever place them and/or others in danger. In this way, we are all working together to keep our school safe.
Thank you for your continued diligence and partnership to ensure Students First, Safety First! Only by working as a school community in partnership with parents can we create and maintain the level of safety that we want for our children and that they certainly deserve.
All the Best,
Mrs. L'Etoile

Bus Transportation Updates
It is a parent/legal guardian’s responsibility to be present for their students in K – 5, or have a known adult or older sibling present at the bus stop. Franklin’s contracted transportation companies will not leave a student in grades K-5 without adult presence. If no adult is present upon the bus’ arrival, the student will remain on the bus and be brought back to campus. If parents of students in grade 3-5 would like to authorize Franklin Academy and our transportation partner to leave their student without an adult present, please complete the PowerSchool Bus Stop Waiver form. This form must be completed each year and the student will not be left alone until such time as a waiver has been received.

Handbook Highlights:
Tardiness Policy Implementation Starting Monday
Beginning this coming Monday, August 28, 2023 we will be enforcing our policy regarding tardiness. We believe that punctuality is an important value to instill in our students, as it not only contributes to their academic success but also prepares them for their future responsibilities.
Under this policy, any student arriving late to school (7:30 AM for Elementary students and 8:30 AM for Middle School Students) will be marked as tardy. Parents will be required to park their vehicle and report to the front office to sign in your child. You will be required to bring in your ID to scan it through Raptor to record the tardy. We understand that there can be occasional circumstances beyond anyone's control, and in such cases, please ensure that you communicate the reason for the tardiness with the school office as soon as possible.
It is essential for students to be present in the classroom from the beginning of each school day to fully engage in the learning experience. We kindly request your support in helping your child arrive at school on time, so they can make the most of their education. If you have any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this matter. We look forward to working together to provide the best possible learning environment for all our students.
