May, the month of our Blessed Mother, is here!

This month, we are focusing on Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and all of her glorious virtues! It is fitting as we celebrate our own beautiful mothers on Mother's Day that we will engage and reflect on the description of Our Lady as "The Crown Jewel of Creation." I love this analogy as it describes the most exceptional of women as the masterpiece of God's creation. Pope Saint John Paul II coined the phrase "The Feminine Genius" in his Letter to Women at the 1995 Beijing Conference. The pope stated "For in giving themselves to others each day, women fulfill their deepest vocation. Perhaps more than men, women acknowledge the person, because they see persons with their hearts. They see them independently of various ideological or political systems. They see others in their greatness and limitations; they try to go out to them and help them." The Catholic Church teaches us that Jesus's mother must be filled with Grace and without sin as she carried our Savior and nurtured and taught Him to grow and develop as a man. Women have a beautiful example of greatness in Our Lady. Women are the crown jewel because of Mary and her example of love, faith, and goodness!

During our five minute morning prayer, we will be learning about Jesus's mother and her perfect example. We will discuss the dignity, beauty, and celebration of the mystery and genius of femininity. We will remember to thank the special women in our lives and to celebrate them.

And don't worry men... June will bring St. Joseph and the Masculine Genius!

We are so proud of our very own Kayden Castle (aka Speedy) for his achievements in the competitive sport of Speed Skating! While many of us were resting over Easter Break, Kayden represented the USA in Paris, France. Kayden was recognized by the City of Hagerstown and was awarded a plaque as well as some pins to trade with the other athletes. We are very proud of our seventh grader and know he has only just begun to represent our country on the world stage! Go gettem' Speedy!!
