Annual Library Report
Sherrard CUSD #200: 2020-2021
A Note to Begin
This year has been a journey through darkness, looking for the light. I am proud of the library staff for all the good they have done, and all the flexibility and innovation they have shown to both abide by the state guidance, and make sure students were able to get library materials all year. We also expanded our digital offerings once again, to ensure that all students, remote or in person, were able to use the libraries.
Innovations from the staff
- Winola - Mrs. Robbins determined ways to share read alouds with in - person and remote students, and distributed services from library carts, eventually transitioning to limited in - library services. She also recorded read alouds weekly for the remote students.
- Sherrard Elementary - Mrs. Willems provided services from carts all year, and started a book club to meet the needs of students that needed a challenge.
- Matherville - Mrs. Bradshaw created a lot of virtual displays and videos to help students find materials, and delivered holds to classes. She also reported that students became much better at card catalog skills this year, as they put materials on hold for delivery.
- Junior/Senior High - Mrs. Justice worked to process a wide variety of materials, and started to improve the card catalog information. Mrs. Justice and Ms. Bennin worked to deliver materials to students based on student holds, and Ms. Bennin worked on virtual displays and video content.
Reflections for next year
- I will focus on science and career books for the various collections in terms of nonfiction.
- I need to develop some professional development options for staff database usage
- I will reinstate the form on the website to gather student and teacher book recommendations.
- We will work on lessons on medial literacy that meet the I-SAIL standards and house bill 234 if it becomes law.
- Reflect on ebook usage and a path forward.
- We will work to pivot to whatever the need is.
