Our school is participating in a statewide needs assessment survey. The survey, Arkansas

Prevention Needs Assessment Student Survey, is sponsored by the Arkansas Department of

Human Services. The results will be used to help plan substance abuse prevention strategies and programs in our community. Some important facts about the survey:

1. It is anonymous. Students will not put their names on the survey. No one will be able to connect any individual student with his or her responses. School staff will not see any student responses.
2. Participation in the survey is voluntary. Your son/daughter may decline to participate at any time or skip any question they do not wish to answer. Questions cover alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and family and community factors related to substance use and abuse.

A letter is going home with your child on Monday. If you do not want your student to participate, simply return the letter with the Denial of Permission signed. We will be administering the APNA survey in Social Studies. You can also reach out to your child's social studies teacher to decline particaipation. The survey will be given on Friday, November 17th.

Do you ever ask your child about his/her day and you get a shoulder shrug? or "it was fine"? If this is the case, use these questions to ask your child about school - let's get them talking!

History 6 -Which river civilization (Mesopotamia, Egypt, Indus River, China) has been your favorite? What was the most impactful achievement in ancient China and why?

Acc. Math 7 - What are unlike terms? Why can you NOT combine them?

Science 7 - What is the difference between criteria and constraints?

Science 6 - Describe the best conditions for clouds to form.

Health 6 -Name several human body systems and describe what their function is (what they do for your body).

Math 6 - What is a variable? What is an expression?

Math 7 - How do you divide fractions?

Language Lab 7 - How do you fix fragments, run-ons, and comma splices? Why is it so important to create complete sentences?

ELA 6 - What's the purpose of expository writing?

Careers 6 -What is the main idea of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Pyramid?

PE - Describe what it looks like to be a good teammate in PE?

Keycode 6 & 7 - Ask to see one of the Scratch projects that your student has created this past week.

EAST - What is your project you would like to work on?
