What Are You Reading This Summer?
Young Adult Diverse Books Book Club Invited to Read Possible VT Reads Bookss for the Future!
The Young Adult Diverse Books Book Club has been invited to read and review several titles the Vermont Humanities Council is considering for future Vermont Reads! Our students will be reading The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton and How Beautiful We Were by Imbolo Mbue. The Light Pirate takes place in Florida and How Beautiful We Were takes place in a fictional African village and both books have environmental themes. Our students will read the books, discuss them with the Vermont Humanities Council in the fall and receive a stipend for their participation. If you are interested, please see Ms. Piccoli.
Ms. O'Connell's Picks!
Ms. O'Connell was excited to pick up our copy of The Hunter by Tana French, "the queen of Irish crime fiction." The publisher's note states that The Hunter is "...a nuanced, atmospheric tale that explores what we’ll do for our loved ones, what we’ll do for revenge, and what we sacrifice when the two collide." If you're a fan of Tana French or would like to start reading her novels, we also have The Searcher.
Ms. O'Connell is hitting the road to begin the next chapter in her new adventure and is planning her trip with one of the library's Rand-McNally's atlases!
Ms. Vonada's Summer Reading List!
Ms. Vonada is setting off on her own literary adventure this summer and she will be starting a few different series including the King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo, Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson and Still Life by Louise Penny!
Speaking of Reading Adventures...
The National Book Foundation is sponsoring a summer reading contest! There are all kinds of great activities to participate in either on your own, with a friend and/or your book club! If you complete all of the activities like listening to an audiobook, reading outdoors, swap a favorite book with a friend and create something inspired by a book you read, for example, you can enter to win a trip to the National Book Awards in New York City! I've printed out copies of the adventure checklist for those of you who are 18 years or older and you can pick one up in the library or click here for more information.
Please keep track of your summer reading adventures - I'd love to feature them in next year's newsletter!
Pic's Picks!
These books are on Ms. Piccoli's radar and may become future Faculty/Staff Book Club Books!
