Matilda the Musical
Calling All Singers, Dancers, Actors, Performers! Musical Auditions for Matilda Jr. Are just around the corner. Please visit our website at bvmusical.weebly.com and go through our information meeting slide deck to learn more and to access our Schoology group for audition materials. If you do not have a personal code yet, please stop in to see Mrs. Pehowski in the choir room and pick one up to sign up for an audition time. Auditions are November 22nd or 23rd with rehearsals starting the first week of December.
Saebrs Fall Screener
Your student will have an opportunity to increase their awareness of their social and emotional behaviors through completing a social, academic and behavior screener. The screener, mySAEBRS, will ask students a total of 21 questions and will be completed in under 10 minutes. The student’s teacher will also complete a similar screener based on their observations of the students. This optional screener will allow school staff to identify universal and targeted areas for growth focused on students being able to regulate their emotions, develop positive relationships and make positive decisions. This is the first fall screening using the mySabers, this school year.
If you would like to opt your child out of the screening process, please complete this opt out form by 11/08/2024.
Thank you!

PTO Fundraiser Pick-Up
The PTO Fundraiser pick up is scheduled for Thursday, November 14th in the Lineville gym from 3:30pm until 7pm. If you are unable to pick up your items on this date, please email lvbvpto@gmail.com in advance to make arrangements. Please note that the PTO has very limited space to hold items (particularly freezer items) so please plan on picking up your items during the designated times. THANK YOU!
Digital Safety Feature: Home WIFI
Creating a safe and balanced digital environment is critical to our children's well-being in today's ever-connected world. Home internet providers are not required to provide screen time and content filtering capabilities as part of a regular internet service, and directions on how to do so can sometimes be hard to find.
Controlling content and screen time at the WIFI router level
One way to manage screen time and filter content is at the WIFI router level. Parents should be able to get administrator-level access of their router through a browser or an app that allows you to filter harmful content, pause your internet for the whole house or for individual devices and set screen time limits on devices. Here are links to the content and screen management services of some of the local internet providers. If yours is not listed, contact them regarding how to access the information and set it up at your home:

The Power of Asking Questions: Your Key to Understanding What You Read
Have you ever been reading a book or an article, and suddenly, your mind starts to wander? Or maybe you hit a part of the story that just doesn’t make sense. Guess what? You’re not alone! Asking questions while you read is one of the best ways to clear up confusion, and it's a skill that will help you become a stronger reader.
Why Ask Questions?
When you read, you might come across words, phrases, or ideas that seem unclear or puzzling. Asking questions can help you dig deeper and figure out what’s really going on. Think of it like being a detective. If something doesn’t make sense, ask yourself questions like:
What does this word mean?
Why did the character do that?
What is the author trying to tell me?
When you ask these kinds of questions, you keep your brain active, which helps you stay focused and learn more from what you’re reading.
Types of Questions to Ask
There are different types of questions you can ask while you read. Here are a few to get you started:
Clarifying Questions – These help you understand what something means. Example: "What does the word ‘mysterious’ mean in this sentence?"
Predicting Questions – These let you guess what might happen next in the story. Example: "What do I think will happen to the main character?"
Connection Questions – These help you relate what you’re reading to something you already know. Example: "How is this similar to something I’ve read or experienced before?"
Big Idea Questions – These focus on understanding the overall message or lesson of the text. Example: "What is the author trying to say through this story?"
What to Do When You’re Confused
It's normal to feel confused sometimes. When you do, stop and ask yourself questions about the part that’s confusing. Here are a few tips:
Reread: Go back a few sentences or paragraphs and read again. Sometimes, you’ll catch something you missed the first time.
Break It Down: Try to figure out what exactly is confusing you. Is it a word, a character's actions, or a new idea? Once you know what’s confusing, you can focus on solving that specific part.
Ask for Help: If you’re still stuck, don’t be afraid to ask a teacher, a parent, or a friend for help. Sometimes, talking about the problem with someone else makes it easier to understand.
The Benefits of Asking Questions
By asking questions while you read, you are training your brain to think critically. This skill will help you not only in school but in everyday life as well. You'll become a more thoughtful reader and a better learner overall.
So the next time you're stuck or confused, remember that asking questions is your secret weapon. Keep questioning, keep thinking, and keep growing as a reader!

It's really a safe space for kids to come hang out together with some supervision.
Parking Pick-Up/Drop-Off Reminder
We have designated 12 visitor parking spots near the main entrance. Please utilize these during the school day instead of using the circle driveway. In the event of an emergency, we need first responders to have unobstructed access. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
A Message from our Bay View Student Services Team
Due to the increase in virtual counseling appointments scheduled during the school day, we want to make sure we can provide adequate private space. If your child will be having scheduled virtual sessions with an outside provider, we would like your partnership in obtaining a signed Release of Information in order to assist your child with any technology or connection issues that may occur during their appointments.
We ask that you provide at least a 3 day notice per each virtual appointment in order to ensure that we have adequate and private space available to your child. If you notify the school the day of an appointment, we cannot guarantee an adequate space or that the message will be received in time to call your child out of class. We know that many appointments are already scheduled, but if you are planning on scheduling future appointments during the school day, we would appreciate it, if possible, avoiding Monday appointments. We do not have the same spaces available as we do on other days. If you need help finding the best time for your child to have scheduled appointments, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your help and partnership.

STUDENT PICK-UP PROTOCOL
If you are picking a student up during the school day, you must come into the main office and sign the student out with your Driver's License. If someone other than you or your emergency contacts is picking up your student, please contact the office to let them know who is picking your student up. Students are not allowed to leave during school hours via bike or walking without prior approval from the main office and Principal.
HEALTH ROOM PROTOCOL
If your student is not feeling well, they need to follow protocol and come to the health room to report their illness prior to contacting home. Students should not be using their iPad to email a parent or texting a parent to pick them up. This will eliminate the spread of illnesses to other students and will make the office aware of students being picked up prior to parent arrival.
