We are looking forward to our big FUNDRAISER at Dowell Elementary. We are raising money to help bring beautification and new technology to our classrooms. We look forward to partnering with you to raise money to support your child's education at Dowell.

We are excited to be getting close to our Family Valentine's Dance! PAWS has a great night planned for you and your children.

First week in February we will be going over several different drills with students. One of those will be a lock down drill. We have completed one of these already this school year, however I truly believe that this drill should be visited more than just one time a school year, as your child's safety is always our number one priority at Dowell. In next week's newsletter I will outline the drills that will take place and the day they will be happening. We continue to do evacuation (fire drills) monthly as that is a requirement. Please help your child's teacher out by talking with your children about the drills and their expectations during the drills.

The I Ready Growth Assessments will be given to your students starting on Jan 27th- Feb 7th. The exact days will depend on your child's teacher and grade. Please encourage your children to take their time and show us all just how much they have grown since school started. We do our best to make testing anxiety free for all students. While the staff at DES understands the importance of growth testing, we also realize this is one assessment. All we ask is that all students do their best!

With cold season in full swing, if your child needs cough drops in school, per our guidelines, you can send cough drops in (in the original packaging) with a note. The cough drops can only be given to the student for a max of 3 days.

The mobile dentist will be coming to Dowell on February 7th. Paper consent forms should have been sent home with your child last week. If you plan to have your child seen and are filling out the paper consent, they must be returned to Nurse West no later than January 16th. There is also an online option to sign up. I digital version of the form is attached. If you need another consent form, reach out and I can get one to you.
