CAMPUS NEWSLETTER - Dec. 16th

It’s ALWAYS a great day to be a CHAMPION CHARGER!

We truly hope that you and your families are able to slow down and spend time together during this winter season. Memories made during this time will be treasures in the years to come. Our Champion Charger Family is ready for the much needed break for our students and staff. January will come quickly and we have a bright spring ahead, full of accomplishments waiting to be made, goals waiting to be achieved, and graduates preparing to take their next step in their educational journey. We are excited for all of these things to take place and to celebrate alongside all of you. Thank you for trusting us with your most precious gifts, your children. It is with humble and grateful hearts that we share in this small part of their lives!

We had MANY accomplishments from last week and weekend. Congrats to Golf, Basketball, Champion Charms, Debate, and Academic UIL. Lots of highlights are shown below in the "Great Things Happening" section of the newsletter. And, we look forward with a lot of excitement to Orchestra's performance tonight at their Winter Concert - join us!

Performing at the BISD Cookies & Cocoa Event

GOLF TEAM

The girls and boys golf teams competed and the Brandeis Holiday Classic at Fair Oaks Country Club on Monday. The girls took 2nd place overall with strong performances from the whole team. Sage Langenberg had a top 10 finish. Ariana Chavez and Lily Musch both had top 20 finishes. (Girls Picture: Lily Musch, Arianna Chavez, Sage Langenberg, Marilyn Curd, Sophia Mazzu)

The boys team finished 3rd overall (3 shots out of first place). Phoenix Guerra finished T-1st!!!! Gavin Tavitas-Steele, Chase Knight, and Cooper Relf all had top 20 finishes. BOYS BASKETBALL

Our varsity went 1-1 on the week, with an OT loss at Alamo Heights and a historic win over Boerne. This was the first time Boerne and Champion have ever competed on the hardwood. Amazing crowd! Our current record is 14-3. Our JV and Freshmen teams were outstanding, as both went 2-0 on the week to push their season records to 7-0.

DEBATE TOURNAMENT RESULTS

Champion Debate Team had another great weekend at the Dripping Springs tournament. Penelope Acosta got 3rd place in Varsity Congressional debate while Elijah Arizona got to finals in Novice Congress. Adriana Swanson got to finals in 4 different speech events - Dramatic Interpretation, Duo Interpretation (partnered with Sophia Wallace), Prose (which she got 2nd place in), and Program Oral Interpretation. We also had other debaters try new events and new kinds of argumentation for an overall successful weekend!

ACADEMIC UIL

Our first tournament of the year and your Champion UIL Academic team took 2nd place sweepstakes at the Bandera HS Christmas tournament. A big shout out to Coaches Zamzow, Steward, and Anders for their hard work and coaching on Saturday.

ELF: Did you know we have a campus elf on the shelf? Clara is hiding and our hide and seek will happen every Monday and Friday of this month. Check the student council instagram for where the elf could be and what to do if you find Clara. Happy searching!

MOVIE CLUB: The movie club’s next meeting is Dec. 18th @4:10pm after school in room A213. Watch the movie ZOOTOPIA and come ready to discuss and review.

TENNIS: Attention all students! If you would like to try out for the 2025 Spring Tennis Season, there will be a meeting on Wednesday, December 18th at 2:00 pm after exams in the Gym classroom. We will be discussing try-out dates and other information for the spring.

DRESS UP: Dress up days will be THIS week December 16- 20. Participate in dressing up for the holidays with our theme days: Monday: Grinch vs. Santa (green vs. red), Tuesday: Fuzzy socks or holiday hats, Wednesday: WAC ( Sport you club or organization), Thursday: Christmas Sweaters, Friday: Christmas Comfy Clothes

INTERACT: Interact club is hosting a tissue drive to provide teachers with tissues in each classroom. If you would like to help, please bring tissue boxes to Mrs. Boyer's room in B271 to earn service hours.

JESUS CLUB: Jesus Club meets every Thursday morning at 8 AM in the black box (room D122).

UIL: Our first tournament of the year and your Champion UIL Academic team took 2nd place sweepstakes at the Bandera HS Christmas tournament. We want to give a big shout out to Coaches Zamzow, Steward, and Anders for their hard work and coaching on Saturday and also for all the students that participated. Their hard work and dedication truly deserves recognition.
