Principal's Corner
Dear SKDS Family,
As we continue to support the academic and social growth of our students, I wanted to take a moment to discuss an important topic that impacts both their learning and overall well-being: screen time, and especially time spent playing video games.
In today’s digital age, it’s easy for children to spend extended periods on tablets, playing video games, and using other devices. While technology offers many educational benefits, excessive screen time can have negative effects on a child’s development, including difficulty focusing, decreased physical activity, and even challenges in social interactions.
At school, we strive to incorporate technology in meaningful ways that enhance learning, but it is equally important to ensure that students are developing healthy habits outside the classroom. I encourage you to monitor and limit the amount of time your child spends on recreational screen activities, such as gaming and non-educational tablet use. Instead, I suggest balancing screen time with other enriching activities, such as reading, outdoor play, creative arts, and family interactions.
Here are a few tips to help manage screen time at home:
- Set clear limits: Establish specific timeframes for when and how long your child can use screens for entertainment purposes.
- Create a screen-free routine: Designate certain times of the day, such as during meals or before bedtime, as screen-free.
- Encourage active play: Support physical activity by encouraging your child to engage in outdoor games, sports, dance, skating or other active pursuits.
- Engage in family activities: Foster family connections through shared activities like board games, puzzles, or reading together.
By working together, we can help our students develop healthy, balanced routines that support both their academic success and overall well-being.
Thank you for your continued partnership in ensuring our children thrive.
Blessings,
Ms. Weiss
Comfy Day Fundraiser
The Scholastic Book Fair
Dear Families:
I’m excited to announce that our school will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair, which will take place from October 14 through 20 in the Cafeteria Conference Room.
For students, it’s one of the most anticipated events of the school year—but we need volunteers to make it happen. We hope that you can offer your time and talents to help students experience Bookjoy firsthand! And every purchase at the Book Fair directly benefits our school, so it’s a win-win!
If you’re available to lend a hand helping shoppers at the Book Fair this year, please follow the link below to our Sign Up Genius. Feel free to contact Ms. Lopas at lopask@stkds.com if you have any questions. Thank you!

The Children's Choir
Exciting news! The parish Children’s Choir JOYFUL NOISE begins today! This is open to all children in the parish in grades 1-8. Rehearsals will be most Thursday afternoons from 3:30 to 4:30 PM in St. Cecilia’s Room just off the church narthex. We will sing for approximately one 10:00 Mass per month including Christmas Eve and Easter.
Our first rehearsal will be today, Thursday, September 26. We will meet in the school cafeteria immediately after school and walk over to the St. Cecilia room for rehearsal. At today's rehearsal I will hand out a permission slip and other materials. It is very important that parents fill out and return the permission slip at the second rehearsal on October 3rd . There will be no separate parents’ meeting.
Any questions, please contact Paul Kennedy

Let us pray...
Family Prayer
God made us a family,
We need one another,
We love one another,
We forgive one another,
We work together,
We play together,
We worship together,
Together we use God’s word,
Together we grow in Christ,
Together we love all people,
Together we serve our God,
Together we hope for Heaven.
These are our hopes and ideals,
Help us to attain them O God.
Through Jesus Christ, Our Lord.
Amen.
