Huntington Highlights
Week of 5/20/24
Message From the Principal
Journey of a Blue Devil Houses
As I previously shared, we are excited to be implementing the House System for the 24-25 school year. We will be kicking off this implementation during these last couple of weeks of school. All our students and staff will each receive an envelope that we will open at a whole school event we are calling our Houses Rush event. Today our 5th graders participated in a mini rush where they received their envelopes and then were able to pick from various leadership roles to help our K-4 grade students during the whole school rush event next Tuesday.
Next Tuesday our whole school will participate in a super fun reveal event where students will find out which house they will be in for the 24-25 school year. After students have opened thier envelopes they will then participate in a station rotation with various activities for students and staff to participate in to get to know other students in their houses.
Shout out to our Video Club who has created sneak peek videos that our students have been watching every Friday leading up to this main event. Students have been getting more excited the closer we get to our Houses Rush event.
To help kick off our House System, each K-5 student will receive their first House shirt free at the beginning of the 24-25 school year at our first House Meeting. At this time our incoming Kindergarten students will find out which house they have been assigned to. In the future, each new school year our Kindergarten students will receive a free house shirt. Parents will have the option to purchase additional shirts throughout their years at Huntington if needed. Shout out to Mrs. Kraly for creating our shirt design!
If you missed it, here is the original JOBD Houses Parent Letter that was shared previously which explains the House System.
mClass Home Connect Reports
Coming home today are the mClass DIBELS Home Connect Reports. As a reminder this report shares information regarding your child's progress in the area of reading and give suggestions regarding activities that are available through the site to do with your child.
American Legion Flag Lesson
Last week our 5th grade students received an American flag lesson from members of Brunswick's American Legion. This is an annual presentation for our 5th graders where they learn the history and interesting facts about the origin of our flag.
Medina County Health Department Update
Ohio is seeing an increase in tick activity and Medina County Health Department has received inquiries from schools as they prepare for Field Day and other outdoor student activities.
The following links are an excellent source of tick information. Additionally, MCHD advises preventative measures such as cutting grass as short as possible where children will be playing and advising students to wear long pants and socks for extended outdoor activities. As an added safety step, parents could be encouraged to use EPA approved tick repellent on their child’s clothing.

The Brunswick City Schools Transportation Department uses the Versatrans My Stop APP to allow parents to see their child(ren) 's bus status in real time. You can install the app via Google Play or the Apple Store on your mobile device.
Parents can log in by clicking here using their primary phone number as the username and password. Parents who cannot log in using their phone number may call the Transportation Department for assistance at 330-273-0227.
Versatrans Login Instructions

Click on the "OPTIONS" tab
Click on the "CHANGE USER PROFILE" tab
Complete the requested information and then click on the "UPDATE USER PROFILE" tab
After the initial login, parents/guardians click "STUDENT" and "VIEW MY STUDENTS."
Next, go to the tab on the top titled "Students" and then "View My Students" (students will show up). After the initial login, parents would click "Student" and "View My Students" when logging back in.
Car Rider Line
Parents dropping off or picking up their child should pull all the way up to the cone at the corner where the sidewalk ends. Students will not be dismissed to cars until all traffic has stopped. Please do not exit the car rider line once you have your child. The first car at the cone will be waved to exit and proceed to Berkshire Dr. by a staff member. This is important for student safety.
Students will be dismissed to cars in waves based on the order of the cars. Parents will receive a car rider tag with their child's name on it for our staff members to know which child gets in each car.
Food Services
Brunswick City Schools offers healthy meals every school day. Students are encouraged to have accounts set up for any breakfast/lunch purchases. For your convenience, deposits may be made by credit/debit card by setting up an account for your student on www.myschoolbucks.com. You may view your student's lunch account, and set up a lunch account balance reminder as well. Charging will not be permitted for breakfast. It is strongly recommended that parents/guardians make meal payments in advance. Personal checks and cash deposits are accepted daily.
Your children may qualify for free meals or for reduced price meals. If you think your children qualify after reading the parent letter and guidelines found in the link below, please complete the application and return to your child's school. We cannot approve an application that is not complete, so be sure to fill out all required information. You may submit one Free and Reduced Price School Meals Application for all students in your household.
