A word from our Librarian.......
April is School Library Month. The library at Block Island School is in the last phases of the barcoding project that began last summer. Students are now able to check out most of the collection without having to write their name on the card. All of the collection is able to be searched in RICAT (ricat.net), which is the online catalog for school libraries in Rhode Island. Also included in the RICAT membership is access to databases such as Culture Grams and Readers Guide to Periodical Literature, as well as those under the AskRI service. Remote access is available; students should see Mr. Moran for the password information if they have not already done so.
Thank you to members of the Leo Club as well as senior Reva van Lent for their help in barcoding the books.

Coming our way in May...
May will be the month when our seniors, who are moving on to college, will make their final decisions as to where they will spend the next 4 years.
May will be the month of state testing for grades 3-10. Whatever your opinion of state testing might be, we know it can't measure the joy a child's smile brings to the room or the silent struggles many have had to overcome, it is however one piece of information we find valuable in assessing our work at the school and validating student achievement. So, I hope you can support us in making this time as easy as possible by having students in school and well rested. Know that we take this time seriously, but strive to make it as stress free for our students as we can.
May will also be the month of baseball and softball at Heinz Field, field trips, the Chili Fest, and preparing for our Spring Concert.
May will also be the month of new people arriving to the Island, moms and dads reopening businesses, babysitters and the routines we strengthen during the winter months replaced with dinners out and later bedtimes. All the joys that spring can bring to Block Island and some of the challenges, too. We know about all these things here at school, and ask families to continue to be diligent in helping us to make our students keep their heads in the academic world while celebrating another spring on our beautiful Island. Let's work together to make these 42 great days full of learning.
