EDUCATOR OF THE WEEK
Congratulations to Tami Hanson, DWS third grade teacher, who is this week's Educator of the Week. DWS is beyond lucky to have Tami Hanson, a truly exceptional educator who puts students at the heart of everything she does as part of our school community! In the classroom, Mrs. Hanson is an expert at recognizing and meeting the unique needs of every learner, ensuring all students feel valued, supported, and challenged.
But her impact doesn’t stop there! Mrs. Hanson is a leader beyond the classroom, dedicating time and energy to initiatives that strengthen our school. Through PBIS, she helps create a positive, supportive environment where students feel safe and encouraged to thrive. At Kids Fit, she inspires students to stay active and build healthy habits for life.
Not only is Mrs. Hanson deeply committed to students, but she is also a trusted colleague, always willing to collaborate, share ideas, and support fellow educators. Her kindness, professionalism, and dedication make a lasting impact on both staff and students alike.
Mrs. Tami Hanson is an integral part of our school community. The passion, care, and leadership she brings to our school make a difference every single day, and we are so grateful to have her as part of our team.

PARENTS' NIGHT DYSLEXIA INFORMATION SESSION
Jen Spaulding will be hosting a Dyslexia Parent Information Night at EWS on February 26th and we would like to invite anyone in the district that is interested to attend. Alongside myself, Ellen L'Italian and several parent and student participants, she aims to demystify the diagnosis and inform parents on how MPSD is addressing the topic through early literacy screening, intervention and progress monitoring. With students on the panel, the goal is to showcase how dyslexic students can thrive with the proper support.
ART NEWS
Talented senior AP artist, Salem Overton, has been accepted into the prestigious National K-12 Ceramic Exhibition in Salt Lake City, Utah! With over 1,000 entries submitted, the juror had the challenging task of selecting only 150 works of art for display. This achievement is a testament to Salem's exceptional talent and hard work, as the exhibition showcases the highest caliber of ceramic work in the country. I am eager to celebrate her success on our social media platforms and school hallway monitors. Salem's accomplishments underscore the incredible talent within our school, and I look forward to highlighting their contributions to our community!

DISTRICT-WIDE BELONGING TEAM
Our second Belonging Team Meeting took place Monday, January 27, 2025. We looked more deeply at defining belonging, looking at partnerships for our work, considering obstacles and contributing groups, and the role of students within our work, and began to look at what is happening with belonging initiatives throughout the district. Here is the second presentation that guided our work. Each building is also in the process of creating Building Based Belonging Teams . We will continue to update the community on our progress. Here are some images from the second meeting:
Essential Questions and Goals for the year:
Essential Questions:
How do we establish our social-emotional learning (SEL) practices to include engagement and education of the community, staff, students, and families on the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)?
What are the intersections between DEI and SEL?
How can our District-Wide Wellness Team inform and support our work in DEI and SEL?
What do we need to do to have an interdisciplinary approach to SEL that includes DEI throughout the school system?
How do we create a safe environment for having difficult conversations?
Goals of Year 1:
Establish a District-Wide Belonging Team
Establish a Building-Based Belonging Team at each building
Create Mission, Vision, Theory of Action, and Community Agreements for the District-Wide Belonging Team
Conduct Equity / SEL Audits
Engage in Community Dialogues as part of Audits, including discussion of use of social media and Wellness (Digital Wellness)
Organize and Run Mosaic Event (March 27)
February is Black History Month
SUPERINTENDENT'S STUDENT ADVISORY COUNCIL (SSAC)
Student voice in everything we do at Marshfield Public Schools is important and valued. To further student voice throughout the district, I am happy to announce the formation of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC). The SSAC meets with the Superintendent monthly, and Assistant Superintendents and other leaders (when they are available) to advise, to provide feedback, and to present viable solutions on District initiatives and programs.
Our first two meetings were wonderful. We began to formulate a student voice survey, created community agreements for our work, got to know each other better, and looked at the role of this important team. In our third meeting, with the high school and middle school students, we talked about our cell phone policies and the current implementation of those policies at the middle and the high school.
Great Learning Happening Throughout the District
Our Learning Walks this year will revolve around Deep Student Engagement, Task Development, and Learning Environment for Students. The District Leader established look-fors are inspired by Amy Berry and her book Reimagining Student Learning, From Disrupting to Driving. This is a multi-year focus, which will involve all stakeholders.
In a nutshell, we will focus on those elements in the classroom that move students from disrupting to driving learning, while also focusing on the development of strong tasks to engage the students within a culturally responsive climate that promotes inclusion.
These lookfors are being unwrapped at staff meetings across the district. This week, we engaged in walks of Daniel Webster Elementary School and Marshfield High School.
100th DAY OF SCHOOL
MHS ATHLETICS BOOSTERS
Annie Spencer (Senior) Gymnastics - In a victory against W/H-Dux. on Sunday 5 Jan 25 (136.8 - 129.6) Annie won the All-Around (AA) and all 4 events. She scored 35.9 points in the AA, and had a 8.975 average for the 4 events. (8.9 of V, 8.5 on Bars, 9.4 on Beam, and 9.1 on Floor) Annie has been an outstanding teammate and friend to every single girl on the team. She works to improve everyday and perform to her absolute best. She is always there for the team and works not for herself but for the whole team.
Corrine Daly (Senior) Basketball - Passion for her team, humility in her approach, thankful for her opportunities, willing to serve her teammates, leadership, character and hard work. I would also like to take this opportunity to note what a good captain Corinne is as well. She always makes sure that all members of the team are included, and has an obvious and admirable passion for the game. She always has accurate and helpful insights when we reflect on games while staying positive and realistic and is quick to help out her teammates to make sure they succeed to the best of their abilities.
Ben Berian (Junior) Hockey - Always hardworking every day.

MHS ATHLETICS
The week certainly started off in fine fashion for the Teams here at MHS. The Girls and Boys Track Teams competed at the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championship Meet at the New Balance Center in Boston. Senior Nathan Looney broke his own school record and won again in the 55m Sprint. Seniors Graham Heinrich and Matt McCabe once again finished 1 and 2 in the Mile Run. On the Girls side, Senior Eleanor Angles Whitfield ran away from the competition in the 2 Mile Run and Junior Sarah Penney did the same in the 1 Mile Run. Junior Anna White had a strong performance finishing 3rd in the High Jump.
The MHS Girls and Boys Swim/Dive Teams competed in their Divisional Meets this past week as well. Senior Audrey Hannigan again set the tone for the Rams finishing in 2nd Place in the 100 Free, while Senior Addie Rhodes finished 10 overall in the 50 Free. Junior Georgia Pearson finished 12th overall in the 200 Free. The Boys’ Cameron Wong, freshman, finished with his best time in the 100 Fly and Sophomore Sean Lawlor cut 3 seconds off his time in the 500 Free. Senior Aidan Parry was the top finisher for Marshfield in the 100 Breaststroke. The Girls Team finished 7th overall while the Boys finished 35th. Next up States for a few of our competitors. Good luck!
The Girls Hockey Team battled the number 1 Team in Division 1 (Hingham) and came away with a 2-0 Loss. Junior Goalie Morgan Murphy was strong in net for the Rams and Senior Courtney Pateras, on defense, and Junior Claire Trodden, on offense, played well for the Rams. The Boys Hockey Team, despite out shooting Whitman-Hanson, 45-7, lost to the Panthers 2-1. Senior Sammy Holte did score a short-handed goal for Marshfield in defeat and Jack Doherty had 4 goals in the Marshfield victory over Walpole earlier in the week. Freshman Jacob Goodyear played strong on defense for the Rams in both contests.
The Girls and Boys Basketball Teams both faced off against tough Patriot League opponents this week. Hanover and Whitman-Hanson were up for both the Girls and Boys and unfortunately the Rams fell a little short. The Girls got strong performances from Sophomores Stella Ewell and Michaela Lamb. Both played well defensively and also hit some big shots in both games. Freshman Caroline Arruda continues to be a presence down low for Marshfield scoring and defending. The Boys, who have been hit hard by the flu bug, still battled hard in both games with key plays out sick. Senior Matt Ellwood has been a consistent threat with his outside shooting. Sophomore Brody Hession has also stepped up with the illnesses impacting the Team and has been important coming off the bench. Senior Brady Lauria has been a key contributor on the boards and defending for the Rams.
The MHS Gymnastics Team finished off their Regular Season last week by coming in 2nd Place in the Patriot League Championship right behind Hingham. Sophomore Sophie Neumann and Senior Olivia Audette were All-Stars on the Vault and Senior Annie Spencer was the Patriot League MVP.
The MHS Wrestling Team had the week off as they prepare for their Divisional Meet this coming weekend in Stoughton. The Rams have had an excellent regular season and are now preparing for the State Tournament, behind Junior Captains Allan Archibald and Liam Dillon. Senior David Sheehan will look to continue his excellent season as well.
