OVS: Connecting People Positively
Principal's Message
Greetings,
The past month was quite a fun and exciting one. Our high school students enjoyed a night "Under the Sea" at the OVS Prom at Sturgeon City. Thanks to Mrs. Pam Ringham who organized and pulled off another great evening for our students. OVS students also participated in several district academic competitions. Demetrius Loadholt represented OVS in the Elementary Spelling Bee, Lexine McBee represented us in the middle school Spelling Bee and our Math Counts team consisted of Gavin Austin, Lilly Hartley, Ava Nguyen, Autumn Zirkle and alternates Demetrius and Zain Loadholt. We appreciate the hard work of these students and are very proud of them for their participation.
Spring Break will run from April 14th through April 21st this year. The last day of school before break will be Friday, April 11th and school will resume on Tuesday, April 22nd. The fifth grading period will end on April 28th.
End of Grade and end of course testing will be upon us soon. This year all testing will take place at Southwest High School EOGs and EOCs will run from June 3rd through June 6th. As in the fall semester, we will test from the "L Building" at Southwest High school. It is the building to the right as you look at the front of the school. Students will again enter in the parking lot to the right. We had a very smooth testing session in January, thank you all for your flexibility as we utilize another school building. The schedule for testing will be release a few weeks prior to the sessions. If you have questions about testing you can call our office and as for myself or Mrs. Suzette Kliewer, our OVS testing coordinator.
Graduation this year will be held at the Earl Taylor Performing Arts Center at White Oak High School. If you are facing White Oak, this building and parking lot area are to the far right. You will not enter at the main office area (flag poles and stop light) but will proceed to the second turn if you are coming from Highway 17. Graduation practice will be on Monday, June 9th at 3:00 p.m. and graduation will be on Tuesday, June 10th at 3:00 p.m. Please reach out to our office if you have any questions.
Take care,
Carla Bradshaw

Cognia Parent Surveys
On March 3rd, we released our annual Cognia Parent Survey. Cognia is a non-profit organization that accredits schools and colleges in North Carolina and other states throughout the southeast region. Onslow County Schools just completed our reaccreditation with Cognia. As part of our efforts in continuous improvement, each spring we request survey data from our teachers, students and parents. This information was sent out via email and has been posted on our website. We have had good response, but if you haven't had time to complete this survey yet, please take a minute and do so. We appreciate your feedback to try to improve the educational services we provide to our community.

OVS Prom "Under the Sea"
Thank you Mrs. Ringham and OVS staff for making this year's prom amazing. Our prom was at Sturgeon City. Our King and Queen this year were Keshaun Williams and Shelby Peterson. Congratulations to you both. The music was fun, the food was great and we all had a wonderful time. We also got a huge compliment from the Sturgeon City staff. They said our students were very respectful of the facility and super well behaved. Thank you all for making us proud💜

Early Release Professional Development Days
Onslow County Schools has six Early Release Professional Development Days built into our school calendar. The days are used to allow for required professional development for staff in the afternoons. On these days school will conclude at 11:55 a.m. and the schedule has been arranged to allow for students who change classes to have the same time in each period. These ERPD dates are as follows: 9/18/24, 10/9/24, 11/20/24, 2/12/25, 3/12/25, and 4/9/25. The schedule above reflects the period times for middle and high. Elementary teachers will share subject times for their classes individually.
