A few words from Mr. Jelks...
Dear LIS Families,
As we embrace the festive season, I extend warm wishes to you and your families. December marks a time of giving, reflection, and embodying virtues that define our community. This month, our LIS virtues are " Generosity, Charity and Service " a value we continuously instill in our students to foster a sense of duty and care towards others.
This week, during our announcements, one of our students beautifully articulated the essence of generosity, charity, and service. They reminded us of our shared role as members of the human race to give selflessly and uplift those around us. Whether it’s offering kindness to a neighbor, donating to important causes, or volunteering time to help others, our students have embraced these values with open hearts and a true spirit of giving.
Speaking of which, our Holiday food drive is still ongoing! We are collecting none perishable items until December 13, 2024. Your generous contributions will be crafted into gift baskets to bring warmth and joy to those in our community who may need it most during this season.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude, "Huy’ch’qa," to everyone who has already donated to our Holiday food drive. Your generosity embodies the spirit of responsible citizenship and contributes immensely to the well-being of our community.
Also, a gentle reminder for traffic safety within our school premises: We kindly request all drivers to park in designated stalls during student pickup times. Your cooperation ensures the safety of our children and a smoother flow of traffic within the school grounds.
We are Kind....
We are Compassionate...
We are LIS...
Huy'ch'qa,
Dionte Jelks
Principal

Wednesday show not far behind. We anticipate that we will sell out for some
performances before the deadline without notice. If you need a ticket order form,
please ask your child to pick one up from their teacher or Mr. M, or the form can also be
downloaded and printed from Mr. M’s website… https://pitchblackdrama.weebly.com/
Tickets will be sent home with your child on Friday, December the 13th.
Your child can practise at home the songs they will be singing at the show. Lyrics

LIS Leadership Spirit Days
Yo-Yo Fun with Ned!
This week, students had an exciting assembly featuring Ned, a character who taught important lessons about Never giving up, Encouraging others, and Doing your best. Through engaging storytelling and impressive yo-yo tricks, students learned how perseverance, kindness, and effort can help them succeed in school and life.
If your child is inspired to practice their own yo-yo skills, yo-yos are still available for purchase next week!
It's softball time!!!
Santa is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town - Santa Claus is coming to town - Santa Claus is coming to town...
Santa Clark, Harbour Air and many volunteers have coordinated the Santa's Holiday Schedule. Come one, come all!

Attendance
We ask parents/guardians to call the school before 9:00 am at (250) 245-3351 or email Info.LI@sd68.bc.ca to notify the school of your child’s absence. Please follow up with a note to your child’s teacher when your child returns to school so the teacher can address any missed work, homework issues, etc. Also a reminder that if students need to leave early, they should be signed out in the main office.
School Closure
The following is a reminder about the NLPS school closure procedure for students.
If schools are closed due to snow, or any other weather-related problems, announcements will be made on local radio stations (WOLF 106.9 FM, WAVE 102.3 FM, and 91.7 COAST FM) by 7 a.m., or earlier, on the day of the closure. Please do not call the radio station – tune in and listen for the announcements, which will be made on a regular basis.
In addition, the district will post the information on the district’s website, Twitter, Facebook, and mobile app. Families may also receive a message through the School Messenger notification system via phone, email, or text. Please keep in mind, however, that there may be situations where this is not always possible, for example, power outages or technical problems. The most reliable method is to listen to the local radio stations.
