Message from the Principal, Sandra Calkins
Dear Mission View Families,
As we enter November, it's a wonderful time to reflect on all we are thankful for, and we are certainly grateful for our Mission View community! We’re thrilled to share that the Arizona Department of Education has released updated letter grades, and Mission View Elementary proudly remains a "B" school. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, staff, and families.
Thank you, families, for your ongoing commitment to student success! Your efforts in ensuring consistent attendance, staying in communication with teachers, attending parent-teacher conferences, and supporting our programs make a significant difference in our students’ progress.
Together, we will continue striving for excellence as we work towards that "A"! Let's make this season of gratitude one that propels us even closer to our goals.
School-wide Shoe Shopping
Our school was selected by the Ramon Murillo III Foundation to receive new shoes for ALL of our students. Thanks to their generosity, we will be taking all students shoe shopping on November 13th. We are in need of some parent volunteers to assist with supervision and helping students select their new shoes. If you are available, please let your child's teacher know and complete the online volunteer application. Volunteers will not be able to take any other children, as they will be supervising groups of students. Additionally, all volunteers will need to provide their own transportation, as all school buses will be at capacity. We appreciate your support. Students must be present to receive a free pair of shoes. We are so grateful to our community partners for this wonderful opportunity for our students.
Please be sure to fill out the TUSD Volunteer application online form if you would like to join your child on a field trip, volunteer in the classroom, or other school events. A new application must be filled out for each new school year.
Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
THANK YOU to all who made donations for our Fall Fiesta. We appreciate your generosity and support of our annual school fundraiser. Our PTA raised a little over $2,000 that evening. Please join us for our PTA meeting on November 19, at 3:00pm. Snacks will be provided and a raffle for attendees. At our next PTA meeting, we will be finalizing plans for our Noche de Gala event and fundraiser. We want to say Thank you and Welcome to our newly appointed Treasurer- Mrs. Estefania Cota. Thank you also to Ms. Sooky Cutright, who has served as a PTA Officer for the past several years. Ms. Sooky will continue to guide and support our new Treasurer and PTA group. Parents, we need your help and support, please consider coming to our next PTA meeting.
Parent Workshops here at Mission View
Keep a Clear Mind workshop is a drug education/prevention program that targets elementary school students in grades 4-6. This program is intended to help children develop specific skills to refuse and avoid using "gateway" drugs.
Please join us on November 7th and November 14th from 9:00-10:30am.
Spanish interpretation is available.
To obtain additional information contact: Ms. Jannette Gastelum at 520-225-2302
Annual Turkey Trot
Families, please join us for our annual Turkey Trot event on Friday, November 22nd at 9:00 am! Thanks to the generosity of the South Tucson Lions Club and a private donor, a full-sized turkey will be awarded to the first-place winner of each race, and second-place winners will receive a pie. Races will be held by grade level, with separate events for boys and girls.
To participate, students must return their signed permission form by Thursday, November 21st. We look forward to seeing everyone on Friday to cheer on our runners and celebrate the spirit of the season!
Counselor's Corner
The character trait for November is gratitude. Research has shown that being thankful for as few as three things a day helps our emotional health.
In counseling we will do the Character Strong activities on gratitude. We also are reviewing boundaries. We will complete the lessons on the importance of consent in intermediate grades.
I’m still working on getting organized with my check-ins. If you feel your child could benefit from a quick weekly encouragement, please let me know.
Your counselor,
Jan Milligan
