TJMS Weekly Family Newsletter
August 18, 2024
ADMINISTRATION
Jaguar Families,
We made it through the first two days of school. It was a flurry of activity here at Toby both days. Students met all of their term one teachers, spent a lot of time with their advocacy teacher, got their school photo taken and received their student ID card with a free Toby lanyard. They attended a super fun rally where we played games and had entertaining skits to review expectations for success. Students ALL did a fantastic job being responsible, respectful, safe and kind.
Here is the message I read Friday afternoon to all students and staff before they went home for the weekend:
"Happy Friday, Jaguars!
We've made it to the end of your first two days of school and our kickoff to the 24-25 school year. Your teachers and staff and I are SO impressed with what you've done the last two days. We saw you being responsible and wearing your lanyards, wearing your Toby Shirts, and dressing appropriately. We saw you being safe by keeping your hands, feet, and other objects to yourself. We saw that you respected the red lines and didn't cross them before school and at lunch and you cleaned up after yourselves by throwing your trash away in garbage cans. We also saw you being kind by smiling and saying good morning at the gate, please and thank you when getting your t-shirts, and visiting nicely with other students at lunch.
This will be a wonderful school year for all of us IF we each keep being safe, respectful, responsible and kind, not JUST because they are school expectations, but because we care about each other.
Acting this way will build a community in which we all feel safe and comfortable, personally thrive, and have fun together.
Monday is a regular school day and you will report to 1st period to start the day. Have a fantastic weekend. GO JAGS!!!"
Tips for success:
- Please remind students to always have their student ID card and lanyard with them (visible in a pocket, on their back pack, or around their neck). They NEED the student ID card frequently on campus.
- Check out the TJMS Student Handbook for any questions not answered here (Dress code, Personal Responsibility, Behavior Expectations, Counseling, Attendance, etc.)
Monday, August 19 is a regular day and bell schedule (see the schedule below). Students will report to their 1st period class to start the day. Check out all the details for upcoming events below, including, an opportunity to be a host family in October for French exchange students!
GO JAGS!!! 💜

TJMS Principal
TRAFFIC SAFETY
Safety will always be the MOST important priority at school. The biggest concern at the start of the school year is TRAFFIC SAFETY.
- If students can walk or ride to school, we strongly encourage it.
- If they ride a scooter, skateboard or bike, they need to WALK NEXT TO IT at ALL times anywhere on campus, NOT ride it. This includes parking lots, the library grounds, and sidewalks. They will lock it in our bike rack area in front of the school.
- Drivers: PLEASE drive slowly, be patient, expect delays, follow ALL traffic rules and know that the FRONT visitor lot is NOT for drop off or pick up before and after school. All drop off or pick up needs to be done in the back loop, on the curb on the main street, or at a designated spot further from campus.

STUDENT PLANNERS for LOVED ONES
Every TJMS Student received a FREE custom made Planner! It's beautiful! It was created by TJMS teachers, Jody Hill and Shelby Ganzert. Staff also get one of the planners. It is prefilled with ALL important dates and events. I use it as my personal planner for the year. When my kids went to school here, I would have LOVED to have one for myself. With that thought, we will sell the planners to any family member for $5. Each planner costs about $3.00 for us to make. It's about $5000 for us to make them for all students. Selling them to parents for $5 will also help us to raise the funds to continue making the planners for every student every year.
To help us know how many planners to print, please fill out this Planner Pre-Purchase request. At the first Back to School Night, we plan to have Planners for sale. Those who Pre-register using this form will be guaranteed a planner. We will have more planners available until supplies run out. If interest continues, we can print more at a later date. Sample graphics from the planner are below.
Monthly View
Each month includes important events, a habit tracker, personal goals, tasks, events, and notes.
Weekly View
Each week includes space to write details for every class, a weekly focus, a reflection, and a full page for notes.
Breaks
We didn't forget space for breaks! It's a great time for a mid year reflection and new goal setting.
ALL FAMILIES - HELP FUND SCHOOLS - COMPLETE THIS FORM
One way appropriate funding for schools was determined in the past was by looking at percentage of free and reduced lunch applications at schools. Now that meals are free for all, new ways to determine appropriate funding for schools were necessary.
ALL families are strongly encourage to complete the Educational Benefits form. By filling it out this quick and easy form, EGUSD schools will receive funding. The video below provides more information. The form is available digitally in ParentVue and hard copies are in the Student Services Office.
RESETTING STUDENT PASSWORDS
Starting August 6th, 7th grade students will be prompted to change their password when they log on to their EGUSD Chromebook using their current password. This new password will be used for all EGUSD logins.

Tips for Creating a Strong Password:
- Combine random words or a memorable phrase.
- Capitalize the first letter of each word.
- Replace some letters with a special character or number.
If students are unable to sign in with your EGUSD account and need assistance in changing your password, they may contact the Student Support line at (916) 686-0245. Please note that the Student Support line can only help with resetting student passwords.
