Evening Street Weekly Update
Read-a-thon Winners!
Take a look at the joyful moment when students in Mrs. Matson's class discovered they were the intermediate division winners for most bingos in the Read-a-thon! And guess what? Their classes were surprised by a visit from a gorilla! It was a moment filled with laughter and fun. You can check out the video of their reactions below — it’s guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. It certainly made me smile and reminded me that I have the best job in the world! Mrs. Szabo's class took the win for the primary division, while Mrs. Jay's class emerged as the overall Read-a-thon winner, earning the honor of naming the gorilla. Here's the breakdown of the prizes:
-
Mrs. Szabo's class: 90 bingos — earned a popcorn and dance party!
-
Mrs. Matson's class: 216 bingos — earned an extra recess and a snow cone party!
-
Mrs. Jay's class: Raised $515.00 — will enjoy an extra gym class and the honor of naming the new piece of playground equipment
Thanks to the hard work and generosity of everyone involved, we raised a grand total of $7,956! A huge thank you to all who participated!
Looking Ahead
As we move closer to the end of the school year, it's time for teachers to start making class assignments for the 2025-26 school year. If you'd like to share any insights about your child's learning style or needs, please fill out the form linked below. While we are unable to honor specific teacher requests, we do strive to create balanced and supportive classrooms for all students. In grades 3-5, students who are identified as gifted will be placed in cluster groupings with a teacher certified in gifted education. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to your child’s homeroom teacher.
Evening Street Talent Show
The excitement is building for the Evening Street Talent Show on Thursday, April 24th at 6:00 p.m. at the Worthington Kilbourne Middle School Auditorium! The kids have been practicing and can't wait to share their talents. A huge thank you to Emily Saving for leading this event for a number of years, and to Erin Florey and Amanda Slusher for stepping up to take over the committee this year. We welcome a new Master of Ceremonies, Dave Schumer, who’s replacing Michael Kuhnell after his retirement. Michael’s dedication over the years will be greatly missed, especially after his daughter Meret graduated from Evening Street. We would not be able to showcase the talent of our students without the incredible support of these parents!
Upcoming Dates
-
Friday, April 18th: No school! Enjoy the long weekend.
-
Thursday, April 17th: Order pizza from Jet’s Pizza, and a portion of the sales will go to the Evening Street PTA!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

Super Games Volunteer Sign-up
Super Games is May 16, 2025
Lace up your high tops, buddy up with teammates, and get ready for Evening Street Elementary’s “SUPER GAMES”. This half day event will include over 15 crazy, challenging, and fun activities. Samples of the activities include: a water slide, wacky relays, GA- GA, 9 square volleyball, and several large inflatable games.
Super Games day builds trust, develops teamwork, improves fitness, and most importantly encourages us to PLAY! Rain or shine, this truly is the best day of the school year.
To ensure your child’s comfort and safety, all students must wear old tennis shoes and clothes (we will get muddy and wet). Sunscreen and a filled water bottle are a must; I am ordering a hot and sunny day. All students will need to pack a sack lunch with a drink.
Parent volunteers are still needed to make this event a great day for the children. Please sign-up at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0C4BAFA82AA3F49-49580390-super Responsibilities include leading the games and having fun. In return for helping, all volunteers get to share the day with their children and enjoy unlimited snow cones!
Thanks,

Time to Tie Dye a T-Shirt!!!
During the week of April 28th children will be tie-dying shirts for SUPER GAMES in art class. Each child should bring in a 100% white cotton shirt by April 28th marked with their name in black Sharpie marker and the shirt in a Ziploc bag.
Mrs. Wetz will send the dyed shirts home with washing instructions for parents. The shirts should be washed before worn for Super Games on May 16th. Before being sent home, the t-shirts will sit in a bag overnight to make certain the color soaks in the cotton fabric.
Color Run May 1, 2025
Hi families, believe it or not we are just a few short weeks away from the Color Run. It is being held May1st from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Mirolo Community Pavilion at the Flats.
This year instead of an entrance fee students will be getting pledges and donations for the amount of color powder stations they run by. On April 21st your child will come home with a flyer containing color run information and how they can participate in the fundraiser this year - so be on the lookout.
Also we need volunteers to help run the event.
Color Stations - These volunteers will be throwing the color powder as the kids run by
Marker Station - These volunteers will be marking off how many laps kids run during the event
Clean-up - These volunteers will help make sure the Flats are in the same condition as when we arrived
Vendor Helper / Runner Coraller - This person will help line up the kids for the start of the color run, and will make sure vendors have what they need by working with our Spring Fundraising Chair.

Highlighting Thinkers, Leaders and Friends
Kindergarten students were thinkers, leaders and friends when they worked collaboratively to learn the basic skills of coding in the library!
Congratulations to members of Mrs. Pence's class who presented at The Agents of Change Festival at Upper Arlington High School Thursday evening. Pictured above are scholars Timothy Beldean, Nico Hume, Isla Dy, Lilly Umali-Barr, Lindsey Stratton, Mrs. Pence, Maggie Corcoran and Lincoln Lynch. The students presented about what they learned about recycling during their visit to the landfill, their projects about famous black Americans. and their Community Lab Project. In the Community Lab Project children partnered with the See Kids Dream organization to save money and help solve a community problem. After researching non-profit organization, students decided to donate to Paws for Ability Organization and the Open Shelter. Click here to see photos of the event.
