7A West Coach of the Year
Recognizing Leadership & Dedication in a Phenomenal Season for the Bulldogs
Brett Hobbs was chosen as 7A West Coach of the Year by his fellow coaches, a testament to the remarkable transformation he's brought to the Springdale Bulldog Football Program. Under his leadership, the team has demonstrated growth and resilience, achieving a level of improvement from last season to this one that impressed coaches across the conference. Springdale Bulldog Football Team went 7-4 and hosted a home playoff game.
Biography
Brett Hobbs is a 2000 Springdale High School graduate who competed in both football and
baseball.
He was a member of the 1999 conference championship football team, which was also the state
runner-up that same year. Hobbs was also a member of the 1998 state championship baseball
team, which took the conference and all-conference championships in 1999 and 2000. Hobbs
earned all-conference football titles in 1998 and 1999 and all-state in 1999. He was recognized as the 5A West Defensive Lineman of the Year, was named NWA Defensive Player
of the Year and was a member of the All Arkansas, AP Super and All-Star Game teams as a
student-athlete as well.
Following high school, Hobbs earned a scholarship to Arkansas Tech University, where he was
a three-year starter as linebacker, earned 1st Team All Gulf South Conference honors in 2004
and played in the Division II National Playoffs. After earning a bachelor's degree in 2005, Hobbs
went on to earn a Master’s in Education in 2008.
Hobbs wrapped up his 19th year of coaching with a 7-4 record with the Springdale Bulldogs,
earning a spot in the playoffs. He started his career as a graduate assistant coach at Arkansas
Tech from 2005-2007 for the defensive line and linebackers and served as the defensive
coordinator at Van Buren High School from 2008-2012.
In 2013, Hobbs transitioned to Charleston High School, where he was the defensive coordinator
until 2015 and won back-to-back state championships in 2013 and 2014. While at Charleston,
the coaching staff was named the ARFCA 3A Coaching Staff of the Year twice, and Hobbs was
also named the defensive coordinator for the 2015 West All-Star team. He served as the
defensive coordinator from 2016-2020 before being promoted to head football coach at
Springdale High School. Hobbs has finished his fourth season as head coach of the Bulldogs.
He was inducted into the Springdale Athletics Hall of Fame in 2019.
