Unexpected School Closures
In the event of an unexpected school closure (inclement weather, power failure, water problems, etc), we will use School Messenger to contact you via email. For this reason, it is important that families inform us of any changes in your contact numbers or email addresses. When inclement weather is expected, please listen to our local radio stations for school information, check the School Information Status Report on the NLSchools website at https://www.nlschools.ca/schools/statusreport.jsp/ or check Twitter @RoncalliSchool for the latest school updates. Decisions about school closures or delays due to weather are usually made by NLSchools by 6:30 AM.
On days when school may close unexpectedly early during the school day due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, it is very important that we know how each child will dismissed. Please read and complete the attached memo, and return to the school as soon as possible. For your convenience, a paper copy of this memo was sent home via the children as well.
School Development Surveys
School Development Surveys are conducted annually to gather feedback from students, staff, and parents/guardians to inform the school development process. The survey results will be provided to your child’s school and used with other data to identify the school’s strengths and challenges. Your child’s school will then create and implement a plan to build on successes and address areas of challenge.
The survey is anonymous, which means that we cannot connect your survey responses to you. We encourage everyone to participate so that we have the most accurate representation of family perceptions at your school.
The Family Survey will be available on February 24th, 2025. Please complete the survey by April 4th, 2025 by clicking on the following link: https://ca.research.net/r/SDFamily2425EN. If you do not have internet access contact your school.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the school development surveys, please contact:
Allan Johnson at 709-729-7831 or allanjohnson@gov.nl.ca or
Patricia Emberley at 709-729-6850 or patriciaemberley@gov.nl.ca
Thank you for your participation and for being a valued member of your school community.

accessible school lunch program should look like at your child(ren)’s school(s). We have
partnered with the Department of Education to launch our surveys through the Thought
Exchange Platform. The surveys are available online via the following link:

PJ Day for the Janeway
Thank you to all of our families who supported our PJ Janeway Day! Days like this are great opportunities to teach our children about empathy and citizenship in a fun way they enjoy.
Pink Shirt Day
Wednesday, February 26th is Pink Shirt Day in schools across the country. At Roncalli Elementary, we take the time every day to build a safe and respectful school environment for our students and staff. On Pink Shirt Day, we encourage all students, teachers, parents, co-workers and supporters to wear pink and show their support for “Kindness for All.” We encourage everyone to stand up in an appropriate and respectful way when they see negative unkind behaviours, and to work together to make our world a better and kinder place.
In a recent meeting, the Roncalli Student leaders discussed Pink Shirt Day. They talked about how not everyone in our community has a pink shirt, and brainstormed many different ways to recognize Anti-Bully day whether you have a pink shirt or not. Following this, one of our student leaders spoke of how many people might have pink shirts at their home that people have outgrown. She noted that we could invite families to donate pink shirts to our school as we continue our efforts to promote kindness. If your family has a pink shirt at home that you no longer use, please feel free to send it in to Roncalli Elementary next week and we will see that it goes to a child that does not have one but would like one.
Together We Are Better!
Let's keep spreading the kindness!
Lost and Found
We have a large number of items in our lost and found. If your child has lost or misplaced something, please encourage them to come have a look in our Lost and Found. Parents/Guardians are also welcome to come have a look.
