Bordeaux Elementary School
October 13, 2024
Dear Families,
I had the honor this weekend to attend the Fall Indigenous Vividness Showcase, where guests were treated to a tasty dinner and traditional ceremonial dances. Indigenous Peoples’ Day is celebrated tomorrow across the country and we are fortunate at Bordeaux to have many Native American families from across the state and country, especially from our two local tribes, the Squaxin and Skokomish Tribes. We value our relationship with our Native American students and families. We are also very fortunate to have Ms. Tamika and Ms. Aurora as part of our Native Ed program to help serve our students.
Our bike rack out front is coming loose and being damaged by students playing on it, creating a safety risk. If you spend time after school out front, please remind your students to not use the bike rack as a toy.
Big Smiles will be back at Bordeaux on November 4th providing dental services to students whose guardians sign them up. Forms were sent home last week. There is also a QR code on the form that can be used to register online. Any student can access these services as long as they have not been seen by a dentist in the last 6 months. Big Smiles will also verify the eligibility and medical before the date of service and will handle all communication with families leading up to the event. If you have questions, please use the contact information on the form.
Soccer games start next week. Families are invited to watch their students from 4-5 pm on their students game day.
First grade - Monday
Second grade - Tuesday
Third grade - Thursday
4th grade - Friday
Families should enter from the side gate located at the end of the main parent pick up parking lot.
We are so excited to have our school librarian, Mrs. Omdahl, hosting our Scholastic fall book fair during the week of conferences Monday October 21st - Friday October 25th. Students will be attending the fair with their class during that week. Families are invited to shop the book fair with their student before school 8:30 to 9 am or stop by before or after your student's conference. It is strongly suggested that families set up an e-wallet for their students. This is an electronic account that families can put money into for their students to use at the book fair. This eliminates students having cash at school. We are looking forward to this coming event!
We had a wonderful and entertaining assembly this past Wednesday. Tim, from the NED Show brought his presentation to Bordeaux Elementary entitled NED’s Mindset Mission demonstrating to students NED’s three important lessons to learn from Never Give Up, Encourage Others, and Do Your Best. Students were excited to hear the many adventures of NED as he climbed Mt. Everest, went treasure hunting, and flew off in a spaceship. Tim used inspirational examples and expert YoYo skills to reinforce the lessons from NED.
It’s not too late to sign up for conferences. We always strive for 100% attendance. Please contact your student’s teacher if you have not yet signed up for a time slot.
This Wednesday is an early release Wednesday and students will be dismissed at 2:00.
I heard this may be the last sunny weekend for a while, so hopefully you had a chance to enjoy it. As always, it’s a great week to be a Bordeaux Bulldog!
