March 30, 2025
Dear GMS Families,
We hope everyone had a wonderful spring break and that you’re feeling recharged and ready to finish the year strong! We’re excited to welcome our students back on Monday, March 31st for the first day back. Let’s work together to finish March on a high note—we’re still working toward meeting our monthly attendance goal and earning a Pajama Day on Friday, April 4th!
Before break, students participated in a fun Minute to Win It celebration for meeting our February attendance goal, where each classroom sent their Attendance Champion to represent them in the games. It was such a fun way to celebrate everyone’s hard work showing up every day!
A huge thank you to the Palatine Jaycees for hosting the STEAM Fair! Many GMS students and families attended—and we’re excited to share that several of our students won raffle prizes!
We also want to thank all the families who joined us for Open House on March 20th. It was wonderful to have so many students and families back in the building to celebrate all the learning and growth happening this year!
Here are a few important upcoming reminders:
-
Tuesday, April 1st – GMS will be a polling place for Election Day. All voting will take place in the gym, and voters will not enter other parts of the school.
-
Thursday, April 3rd from 5:30–7:30 PM – Join us for Bingo Night! The cost of entry is just a candy bar, and it’s sure to be a night full of fun and prizes. Students must be accompanied by an adult.
-
Friday, April 4th – We’re excited to welcome the Palatine Police Department for High Five Friday! Officers will be greeting students at arrival with smiles and high fives to start the day off right.
-
Monday, April 7th – Students in grades 3-5 will begin taking the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). We encourage students to get a good night’s sleep and be ready to do their best!
-
Wednesday, April 9th – The Palatine Fire Department will be at GMS to talk with students about fire safety.
-
Thursday, April 10th from 6:00–7:00 PM – We’re excited to welcome our incoming kindergarten families to Kindergarten Welcome Night!
We’re looking forward to seeing everyone back on Monday! Let’s finish the month strong and celebrate with Pajama Day next Friday!

Reminder for Parents Picking Up Students By Car
We’ve noticed some changes in car rider pickup routines lately. To help keep traffic flowing safely and smoothly, we kindly ask everyone to follow the guidelines for our new traffic pattern. Thank you for your attention and cooperation!
We've noticed some changes in car rider pickup routines lately. To help keep traffic flowing safely and smoothly, we kindly ask everyone to follow the guidelines for our new traffic pattern.
Whether you're traveling east or west on Wood Street, you’ll now enter the same entrance. This entrance is located on the north side of GMS, toward the back of the building. The western-most entrance will now be blocked off, so please make sure you’re using the correct entrance.
Once you enter, cars will wait in line in a snaking pattern through the parking lot. This will help reduce the build-up of traffic on Wood Street and keep the flow moving. Please do not park in the lot or any nearby village parking lots and leave your car to walk your student in. This area is reserved for drop-off only.
When you reach the front of the line at Door 8, please pull all the way forward in groups of 4 cars. Staff will be there to help students exit the car safely and guide them into the building. There will also be staff stationed in two locations along the drop-off line to help manage the flow and direct vehicles as needed. After dropping off your student, cars will exit promptly to keep the line moving smoothly.
Thank you for your attention and cooperation!
