Stanwood Middle School
Early Family Message - Thursday, December 15th, 2022
Good Evening Stanwood Middle School Families!
Our Family Message is going out early this week in anticipation of the long Winter Break and we wanted to remind students that we will be serving free donuts and hot cocoa in the cafeteria starting at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow (Friday) morning. Also, we continue our Spirit Week with Hibernation Day tomorrow. Students can wear their most comfy PJs to school!
Empowering our Spartans to Learn
Phew. Winter break is here and it is the best time for families to take a pause and reconnect with each other and enjoy their time together. We know our teachers this week before break have put a serious emphasis on having students check Skyward and work to be all caught up on their assignments prior to the vacation. Please talk with your Spartan about how their school year is going and double check Skyward to make sure there are not any lingering assignments from 2022 heading into a brand new sparkly year.
Our school year and the final 23 days of first semester resumes on Tuesday, January 3. While we know that middle school students long for sleeping in and usually a lot of screen time over the break, we can't help but encourage sticking to a good healthy sleeping routine to where 7:40 a.m. doesn't hit quite so hard on the 3rd. And, of course, we always recommend reading for fun and pleasure over the break--sinking into a good book, manual, or magazine helps keep those brain cells growing and learning!
We will be coming back to school on Tuesday, January 3rd! Have a great break!

Spartan Pride Awards
This week we did our shout-outs during the morning announcements to celebrate those who are rising to the top of the Pride (sorry we didn't get pictures!)
We always appreciate those that do what is right all the time--great job to not only these Spartans showing pride, but all those that do everyday!
Meet The Spartan Staff
This week our Spartan Spotlight shines on our three resource paras. All three of these wonderful women spend time in the special education classrooms and general classrooms helping our Spartans be empowered to learn.
Paula Kvam started working in the district at Utsalady in 2003 before becoming a Spartan in 2011. Her favorite thing about Stanwood Middle School is the students and staff--she says we have a great staff that makes it a fun place to help kids. Outside of school, Mrs. Kvam's hobbies include taking care of her "high maintenance doodle," walking the beach, and exercising--even admitting being addicted to her Peloton!
Janet Preo started in a permanent position at Port Susan in 2004 before transferring to Stanwood Middle School in 2011--overall 19 years in the district! Her favorite thing about our school is the staff, saying they are great people to work with and they care a lot about the students. When she's not at school, Mrs. Preo enjoys the outdoors, hiking, running, walking on the beach and traveling.
Margaret Martin started working at Stanwood Middle School in February 2021. Her favorite things about our school include the staff, students, and being part of the team. Outside of school she can be found on the sidelines watching her daughter compete in cheer.
Message from our photographer
Happy Holidays from Firefly Images!
Thank you for letting us photograph your children! Here's hoping you have a great holiday spending time with your friends and families!
Before we break for the season, we want to make sure everyone knows that if you ordered pictures, both digital and printed products have all been delivered with the exception of orders placed in the last week ... those are still processing!
If you haven't received your order, please contact us at fireflyimages2@comcast.net and let us know all the details (School, Student Name, how you ordered, when you ordered and what the issue is) Before you reach out, there are things you might do to check on your end... did your check go thru your bank? Did your credit card get charged? Did you check with anyone and everyone that might have been involve in getting your pictures you ordered? If so and you still need help, please let us know.
For those of you who are still looking to purchase pictures, we have included the link below so that you can place your order. With school closing for the holidays, every order placed will be shipped to your home address (and email if you order a digital product) so double check them for accuracy!
