Happy Friday South Community!
I wanted to start my updates with an update on the New Elementary School Project. On Tuesday, the vote was not successful to approve a new project. This was unfortunately not the outcome that many had hoped for. Please see the update below from the Superintendents Office.
There was a special election on Tuesday to decide whether or not to approve a debt exclusion to fund a new consolidated elementary school in Stoughton. A majority of voters were against funding this project. We were hoping for a different result, but thank all of the residents who came out to vote, and especially thank the many volunteers who spent time championing this project.
Regardless of the outcome of the vote, the physical condition of the South Elementary School remains an ongoing issue that will need to be addressed. We understand there is concern about what happens as a result of this vote. The elementary school building committee will be meeting soon to discuss next steps and how to best proceed.
We still remain committed to providing the best quality education for the children of Stoughton and will continue to keep our community up to date.
There will be more information forthcoming with updates throughout the summer, the building project website will reflect updates and any pertinent updates will be released via SPSNews (Email and text update system).
This was a busy week at the South. Some of the highlights this week were our whole school field trip to Camp Maplewood in Easton, Kindergarten Moving Up Ceremony and our Grade 5 Moving On Ceremony. We also had our annual Hansen-South Pen Pal meet up for Grade 3 at the South School.
Additionally, the PTO sponsors an slushie truck on the last day of school. All families must complete the following form for their students in order to participate. This helps us inventory our needs and also make sure that all parents/guardians determine if they would like their child participating:

As a reminder, we do have school on Monday and Tuesday next week. They are both half days. Busses will run to and from school on both days.
This will be the last newsletter of the year. I wish you all a wonderful summer filled with sun and fun! See you all on our first day of school, Wednesday, September 4th, 2024!

Please answer the poll below if you are interested in providing feedback on the different concert options for Grades K-3 (Grades 4 &5 have an evening concert in the Spring and will continue to have a day time concert in the winter due to the scheduling of band teachers).
