The War Cry
September 20, 2024
Hi Families,
Just a few quick reminders and things to be on the lookout for:
- Morning Schedule: Students eating breakfast may enter the building as early as 8:00 am. All other students will need to remain outside the building until 8:22 am. Please keep this in mind when scheduling your morning drop-off.
- Safety/Car Riders: For students who are car riders, we ask that they be dropped off and picked up at the curb. The bypass lane should be utilized for bypassing cars only. Students should not be dropped off/picked up from a parking spot and walk through other cars and car rider line traffic. Our procedures are intended to keep all students safe and we appreciate your support with this.
Huge thanks to those who adjusted following this message last week! We see you and we appreciate you!
- Parent/Teacher Conferences (Week of October 7): Information should have been received from your child's teacher (or team of teachers) very soon regarding Parent/Teacher conference sign-ups, dates, and times, if you haven't received it already. We encourage you to meet with one of your child's teachers during the conference window. That teacher (or team of teachers) will share information so you get a picture of your child's success and challenges in all of their classes during that one meeting. If you have questions about this process, please reach out to one of your child's teachers, who can answer any questions or direct you to the right person to answer your questions.
This is a great opportunity to meet with teachers, especially now that they've been with your child for weeks, and open the lines of communication for how to best support your child in their academic growth and overall success.
As always, we are grateful to have your family as part of our school community. Have a wonderful weekend!

7th Grade Hearing Screening
All 7th grade students will have their hearing screened during their science class on Wednesday, October 2nd by the district Speech-Language Pathologists. Students will get a handout communicating whether or not they passed their hearing screening. If they did not pass, they will be re-screened in 4-6 weeks.
ILEARN Checkpoints
This year, DCSC will be participating in the ILEARN Checkpoints Pilot through the state. We have replaced our regular NWEA testing in the fall and spring with these Checkpoints. We are excited to see the data we get back to better track student growth and progress toward mastery of grade level skills throughout the year.
Please review the attachments below for more grade-specific details on what the Checkpoints will look like.
Our tentative testing dates at DCMS are as follows:
- Checkpoint 1: October 8th to October 10th
- Checkpoint 2: December 9th to December 11th
- Checkpoint 3: March 11th to March 13th
Spring Summative dates will be determined at a later date. The checkpoint dates are subject to change, based on student need and testing accommodation requirements.

Nutrition Club
The Nutrition Club provides supplemental weekend food for children at North, South, and Middle School each Friday during the school year. We all struggle at some point. The goal of this program is to ease a bit of the struggle. You are welcome to sign-up at any point during the school year. The food will be sent home in a plastic bag that can fit inside a school backpack or be carried. You only complete one form per family. List all of your children that you would like to participate. Each child in your family will receive their own cinch sack or bag on Fridays throughout the school year. This program is the result of the generosity of the Danville community! Please contact Chrissy Larkin with any questions. clarkin9893@aol.com or 317-563-2498.
