Winter weather is here and we want to be sure families are as ready as possible for possible schedule changes or inclement weather cancellations. As of December 5, 2024, the Shawnee Mission School District has updated its inclement weather plans to include Plan C- which includes a 2-hour delay option. This new option aligns us with our neighboring districts in Johnson County and will facilitate common decision-making with regard to inclement weather. Please review the district’s inclement weather procedures on this website: https://www.smsd.org/families/weather

PTSA Presents: A Night of Mental Fitness
High school can feel like a pressure cooker—for both students and parents. Between academics, sports, extracurriculars, and social pressures, it’s easy for teens to feel overwhelmed and for parents to struggle with how to best support them. This engaging, interactive evening will give you practical tools to help your teen handle stress, build confidence, and perform at their best—whether in the classroom, on the field, or in life. Presented by Triumph Performance Institute, whose experts have worked with Olympic athletes, top executives, and high-achieving students, this event will equip you with the strategies to help your teen thrive under pressure. Don’t miss this opportunity to gain real, actionable insights that will benefit both you and your child for years to come!

Note from Athletic Director, Angelo Giacalone
Postseason is well underway, and the Cougars are rolling. Brooklyn Peck winning the individual Sunflower League Bowling Championship, the boys’ bowling team finishing sixth as a team in the 14-team SFL Tournament really got things started. Boys and Girls wrestling team kept their strong seasons going with the boys finishing sixth (10 points out of third and three points out of fourth) while the girls finished fourth and overcoming some injury adversity.
With all that said, this week boys swim goes to 6A State Swim competition while the boys wrestling heads to 6A Regional Wrestling competition. Good luck to everyone. Finish strong. To keep up with all the action you can look below at the Feb. 17th newsletter.
