Mission Statement
Principal's Message
Dear SMG Families & Friends,
Happy Sunday!
As you are hopefully aware, Early Bird Registration for the 2019-2020 school year opened last Monday, February 11th and will continue through Monday, February 25th. The response to the Early Bird registration has been very positive and many new and returning families are taking advantage of the Early Bird tuition rates. Not only do families benefit by registering within the Early Bird registration period, it helps us to plan and work with more accurate enrollment numbers, which ultimately helps our budget. A question that has been asked by a few families is whether or not there is still a discount if tuition is paid in full. The answer is yes--there is a 2.5% discount if tuition is paid in full by June 13, 2019.
If you have questions about registration, tuition, payment options, or affording SMG, please feel free to email or call me or our Registrar, Mrs. de la Pena (jdelapena@smgschool.org). We are happy to answer your questions or assist you in the registration process. Whatever you do, don't miss out on Early Bird Registration/Tuition!! As the 2019-2020 Registration and Tuition schedule explains, there is an increase in the tuition rate after February 25th.

Dine Out Night at Potbelly on Cooper!
Teacher for the Day - Friday, February 22nd
The honor and fun of being teacher for the day was made available through silent bidding at the Annual SMG Dinner Dance. The high bidders will be filling in for teachers and administrators on Friday, February 22nd. Students will dress in teacher/administrator attire, enjoy a Chik-fil-a lunch in the faculty lounge, and will be responsible for "running" the classroom for the day.

The SMG 28-Day Read-Aloud Challenge Continues!
We hope you and your children are enjoying the 28-Day Read-Aloud Challenge and encourage you to keep on reading!
We are about half way through our 28-Day Read-Aloud Challenge that we kicked off on February 1st with World Read-Aloud Day. The goal of the 28-Day Read-Aloud Challenge is for each student to read aloud for at least 10 minutes per day during the month of February. Students can read to anyone: a sibling, a parent, a grandma, a stuffed animal, a pet. Pre-readers can look at pictures and tell a story aloud.
Students, remember to turn in your completed calendars showing the dates that you read aloud for at least 10 minutes, to your homeroom teacher by Friday, March 1st. Students who complete the challenge will be eligible to win prizes in a drawing that will take place on Monday, March 4th, during our regular Monday morning assembly and our Read Across America Day celebration.
More information, including a calendar, can be found on the school’s website at https://smgschool.org/news/smg-28-day-read-aloud-challenge.
Happy Reading!
love is in the air
Valentine love filled our hallways on Valentine's Day and continues through the month on February! Teachers and students got creative with a variety of heart shaped activities; Student Council sold Valentine Candy Grams, which were a huge hit and students enjoyed exchanging Valentines and special treats with their classmates.

Support the Stephen Breen Memorial Foundation while Supporting Our SMG Athletes!
The Stephen Breen Basketball Tournament is held annually at St. Andrew Catholic School (SAS) with 6th & 7th grade teams from around the Diocese participating. This year's tournament begins Monday, February 18th and runs through Saturday, March 2nd (no games on Sundays or the second Friday).
All proceeds from the tournament benefit the Stephen Breen Memorial Foundation, which is committed to offering financial aid to local children who seek the strength and values of a Catholic education and to those courageous children and their families whose lives are afflicted with cancer.
You can support the Stephen Breen Foundation by purchasing a tournament t-shirt AND you will receive FREE ADMISSION to the tournament when wearing your shirt. Shirts can be shipped to your home or picked up at SAS during the tournament. All Diocesan 6th, 7th and 8th grade basketball player names are listed on the back of the shirt, which makes a great keepsake!
As well, students who purchase a t-shirt can show their support of our athletes playing in the tournament by wearing the shirt with their uniform bottoms/skirts to school for the duration of the tournament (2 weeks, excluding Wednesdays-Mass).
All profits benefit the Stephen Breen Memorial Foundation.

secret service challenge winners - mission possible!
SMG students were presented with a mission, MISSION POSSIBLE! We challenged students to go undercover during the month of January and perform 7 days of secret service through random acts of kindness.
Congratulations to Kindergarten and 2nd Grade for winning the Secret Service Challenge. They will enjoy a special ice cream treat during lunch next Thursday!
Robotics Students at Bell Helicopter
SMG Robotics students were invited to participate in an event at Bell Helicopter on Wednesday February 13th to promote Education Volunteering Opportunities among Bell employees.
Students interacted with Bell employees and answered questions while running some of the missions from this year’s Robotics season.
required training - classes available through June
Per the Fort Worth Diocese, all school parents who wish to volunteer in any capacity in any diocesan school must attend the new VIRTUS training called "Protecting God's Children for Adults", by August 2019, regardless of when your previous Sate Environment training will expire.
The Safe Environment program has changed to a new class offered by the VIRTUS company. All new training and renewal training must be completed in person. Online renewals are no longer offered. Please refer to the list of upcoming sessions. It would be a good idea to register for a session as soon as possible since they will fill up quickly.
You must go online to https://fwdioc.org/training-sessions and create an account through VIRTUS, and register for one of the sessions prior to attending. If you are on the VIRTUS website and find a session at another parish or school that works better for your schedule, you may attend that instead. Be sure to still select Saint Maria Goretti Catholic School as one of your volunteer locations so that we will know you have attended. If you have any questions, or need help getting registered, please call Mrs. Malloy in the school office at 817-275-5081. We appreciate the time you give to volunteer at our school!
