Email - kcoleman@scwhitmoreschool.orgImportant Note: Students who do not participate in the required state testing will face disciplinary action and will not be eligible to re-enroll in SC Whitmore School. Testing windows, including those for End of Course Exams, are set by the state. To fill the gap between when a student finishes and EOC course and the test date, we have EOC Prep courses for Algebra and Biology. Teachers of English 2 and US History send exam review videos and other test prep material.
- PSAT will be held October 9 at our Columbia office for those who registered.
- WIN will take place in the Midlands, Lowcountry, and Upstate with parent choice of testing location the week of October 28. More information to come for those who need to test. *If a student misses their scheduled WIN test, they will have to come to Columbia November 6 to take a make up test.
- Pre-ACT will be held November 19 at Columbia office for those who registered.
- Students taking English II, Biology I, US History, or Algebra I this semester will take an EOC (end-of-course exam) which will count as 20% of their final grade. These tests will happen across the state and will be offered December 11-17. More information will come directly to those who will be testing!

Plus, it's a chance to challenge yourself and see how much you've learned throughout your high school career. The Proactive Senior Scholarship by Going Merry is a $1,000, no-essay scholarship for one lucky rising senior who is proactively applying to financial aid this fall. The SC Honors College Writing Contest is open!
The South Carolina Honors College at the University of South Carolina invites students to enter the South Carolina High School Writing Contest for cash prizes and a publishing opportunity.
PARTICIPANTS: The contest is open to South Carolina high school juniors and seniors in public, private and home schools.
TOPIC: The topic is βHow should we improve the state of South Carolina?β We welcome submissions in all creative genres, including fiction, drama and poetry. We also welcome straightforward essays and other kinds of writings β diary entries and letters, for example. Submissions must be within 750 words.
HOW IT WORKS: After a student submits their work, 15-20 finalists will be chosen. Those finalists will have their work reviewed by the 2024-2025 writing contest judge, Carla Damron, a South Carolina-based writer whose crime fiction novel, The Orchid Tattoo, about domestic human trafficking, received four literary awards, including the 2023 National Indie Excellence Award in suspense.
DEADLINE: Students must be residents of South Carolina. The deadline for submissions is Oct. 7, 2024.
Cash prizes of $1,000, $500 and $250 will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners. The entries of finalists and winners will be showcased by the South Carolina Honors College on its website.

Coke Scholars Program (App due Sept. 30)
Each year, the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation awards 150 college scholarships worth $20,000 to high school students across the United States through the Coca-Cola Scholars Program.

Miami University Bridges Program
An award-winning overnight visit experience for high-achieving high school seniors, the Bridges Program is an overnight visit experience for high-achieving high school seniors from historically underrepresented populations, as well as students who have a commitment to diversity. We welcome various diverse identities β racial/ethnic, sexual orientation and gender, and socioeconomic.
During the Bridges Program, students will:
- Visit Miami's campus to get a sense of what it would be like to be a student here.
- Engage with students and professors in a Miami classroom.
- Eat in our award-winning dining halls and stay overnight in a residence hall.
Those who successfully complete the Bridges Program and enroll on the Oxford campus for fall 2025 will be eligible to receive the Bridges Program scholarship.

Experience the Life of a Cadet - The Citadel
To fully experience the life of a cadet, The Citadel offers a monthly opportunity for prospective students to spend a full 24 hours as part of the Corps of Cadets. Interested students check-in at 5:00 PM on Thursday to spend the night in the barracks and eat in the mess hall. On Friday, parents and students attend information sessions, cadet panels, and academic forums designed provide an in-depth look at academic programs and the cadet experience at The Citadel.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
I love to travel any chance I get!
Tell a little bit about your background.
I live in Charleston, SC with my husband Eric (also a teacher at SC Whitmore), my daughters Savannah (16) and Grace (14), and our dog Millie. I have been teaching for 28 years and I don't plan on stopping any time soon.
What do you do at SCWS and what do you enjoy most about your role?
I teach Math (Probability and Statistics, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, SAT Math). I really love when I am able to help a student have an AHA moment where something "clicks"!
What do you want the students to know about you?
I am always here to help. Please don't ever hesitate to reach out when you have questions.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Water Skiing and rock climbing.
Tell a little bit about your background.
I am originally from Southern California. My wife Jessica and I moved to South Carolina in the summer of 2017. I earned my Bachelorβs degree in Political Science from Azusa Pacific University and my Masterβs degree in Learning and Teaching from the University of Redlands. My goal is to teach students to think critically in areas of life which reach beyond the academics.
When Iβm not teaching, I enjoy traveling with Jessica, bouldering (indoor rock climbing), water skiing, and playing with my adorable pups, Scully and Duke. I love sports and have a special affinity for my original LA hometown teams like the Dodgers and USC Trojans.
What do you do at SCWS and what do you enjoy most about your role?
I teach a variety of Social Studies Courses here at SC Whitmore, including US Government, Human
Geography, Modern World History, Personal Finance, and Career Planning and Development.
What do you want the students to know about you?
I am rooting for you and I am always here to help when needed.

Named by an SCWS student, ArtMore is a digital literary and art magazine where students can showcase their work with their peers. The magazine features items such as original poetry, short stories, photography, multi-media art and more.

S.C. Whitmore Student Council is an organization of student leaders who are elected by the student body. The Council is led by the Student Body President along with offices of Vice President and Secretary. The Council provides input into how to make student life better at SC Whitmore School. They also plan events and contribute in other areas the administration of the school sees fit. The Council is advised by a faculty sponsor who attends all meetings.
Beta Club is a group of students committed to leading through serving others in their community and state. These students are selected based upon their GPA, attendance and behavior. Students work to complete volunteer hours, as well as come together as a team to complete a service project. Induction Ceremony is held in the fall.

Lit Lunch is a virtual meet-up for creative students who want to meet new friends and share what latest creative project theyβre working on. Whether youβre into cosplay, digital art, drawing by hand, photography, rapping, writing or playing instruments, this is the space for you! We meet on the first Thursday of each month from 1-2 p.m. Join us here!
The SC Whitmore National Honor Society is an organization for students in grades 10-12. Selection is based on four criteria: scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Members complete volunteer hours and work together to complete at least one service project each school year. Membership into the National Honor Society allows students to apply for over 400 college scholarships not available to other students. Members also have access to numerous college planning services.
Students are eligible to participate in sports and other extracurricular activities at their local high school. Contact your local high school for more information.
