It is hard to believe that the end of year is less than two weeks away. There are many, many opportunities yet to happen to celebrate so many successes here at IPS and tonight is dedicated to ALL the Year 8s with our much loved "Dinner Dance" . This is a fantastic occasion where we invite our Y8 students together with their family to come along and have dinner with us, have some formal graduation proceedings and then a lot of fun dancing. All staff contribute to the setting up and running of the evening, none more so than the Year 7 & 8 Teachers. Together with a student group of Dinner Dance Committee, the main organisers have thought of every detail - thank you ALL for you mahi in making sure this evening is a great success and a memory created, which will be cherished forever more.
IIPS Looks Amazing
We are proud of...
New Additions to IPS
Over the years, we, like any good household managers of property, have had to tend to the infrastructure of buildings, wastewater, power and safety aspects of maintaining and growing a school of our size. We have pulled down seven buildings and put up ten,. We have ensured asbestos removal and earthquake strengthening has been undertaken, along with new roofing, re cladding, painting and electrical upgrades. While this has been going on, we have been squirreling money aside to complete some of the projects which fall outside of infrastructure.
One of which includes, our new "pou" created to share the korero of our four rakau (trees) here at IPS and provide a significant place for our Kaumatua to stand and Karanga to our manuhiri on special occasions.
Pou
Creator and Artist Matua Moni Martin, assisted by Matua Shane.
On the pou is a painting which depicts a story we share here at IPS. The korero involves our Rata, Miro, Kowhai and Kauri trees. The korero (story) we share with our tamariki (students) and kaimahi (staff) is around the following. In order for our seedlings to grow into strong and sturdy trees, the ground needs to be nurtured to ensure the roots have a solid foundation and start to their journey ahead - like we provide for our children. We water and nature the ground, always adding goodness and nutrients. We liken this aspect of our korero to the curriculum, providing building blocks for learning. As we know, our weather comes at us in many forms, rain, hail, sun, wind and sometimes, even snow. We share that when tawhirimatea blows and beats us up a bit, we learn to stretch and grow, building and strengthening resilience.
. All these elements impact our rakau (trees) and the growth they make over time. Like trees, all the things that happen to us in life. These things can beat us up a bit, however with solid foundations and support, we develop resilience and strategies to learn the rick of standing upright here (like a moa)
Mural on Te Moa
To those of you who have been in our kura of late, you will have noticed some special additions to our Kura. These are in form of our Mural created along the wall of Te Moa by artist Lotte Hawley - the korero for the Mural is as follows.
A captivating scene unfolds before us—a scene brimming with wonder and curiosity. Here, a group of tamariki (children) embarks on an educational adventure that one might liken to a "field trip" within the kura context. Armed with an assortment of tools—sticks, books, binoculars—the tamariki symbolise the essence of exploration, research, and a profound connection with the whenua ( the land).
As their youthful gazes stretch out across the landscape, they engage with a soft typical kiwi landscape that encapsulates both the past and the present. In this moment, they pay homage to the whenua, recognizing its rich history. The background landscape itself serves as a portal, transcending the constraints of time to unveil a world long gone, a testament to the passage of many years, and the people who have been before. These tamariki, by delving into the accounts of the past, equip themselves with the wisdom necessary to flourish as they journey towards the future.
Within this vivid scene, Te Kura o te Kōhanga Moa / Inglewood School's presence is subtly but unmistakably affirmed. The kura's emblematic logos adorning their shirts, the thriving moa inhabiting the landscape, and the Mangōpare koru designs gracefully woven into ribbons all converge to signify its significant place within this sacred ground. These ribbons, akin to landmarks, bear witness to the kura's enduring influence on this particular location, proudly staking its claim in the earth's embrace, an indomitable bond with the Maunga (mountain) that overlooks them and their kura with his warm and protecting spirit.
Mural at the gate
This Mural is the one when entering through the gate on Kelly Street. This Mural was created with tamariki who were undertaking a Student Inquiry Project with Tracy White and this was also entered into a Resene competition Nationwide. The group of artists can be very proud of what is now a new taonga at the gate, which they will be able to visit in years to come and remember with fondness and pride. Ka rawe

Child Cancer Fundraiser
One of our Year 8 students, Connor Catlin-Maybury, has decided that if he has to have his long hair cut ready for high school, he might as well go for gold and have his whole head shaved to raise money for the Child Cancer Foundation!
He is planning to cut as much length off as possible, which will be donated to Freedom Wigs, and then shave whatever is left! He's been growing his hair since he was 8 years old, and it hasn't been trimmed for the last two years so there was as much length as possible to donate, so its going to be a huge change.
Please support him to raise as much as possible - donations can be deposited in account number 38-9022-0394929-09 account name Connor's Head Shave!
The chop will take place at the last Year 8 school assembly on Thursday 14 December so please get your donations in so we can announce the sum raised - wouldn't it be fabulous to hit something amazing like $10k!!
If you have helped our Kura in any way this year, please feel free to come along and share in some kai with us. We really do appreciate all that you do to make IPS an awesome place to be.

TERM 1 2024 ENROLMENT
Enrolment at Inglewood School is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available on the school website or from the school office.
The board is now inviting applications from parents who wish to enrol their children at Inglewood Primary School starting within Term 1 2024.
All applications must be received by 3pm Monday 22 January for Term 1 2024. If a ballot for out of zone places is required, it will be held on Wednesday 24 January 2024. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.
The board has determined that 20 places from Year 1-8 are likely to be available for out-of-zone students within Term 1 2024. The exact number of places will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within the school’s home zone. Parents of students who live within the home zone and intend enrolling their child at any time during the year should notify the school to assist the school to plan appropriately.
The application form for enrolment is available from the school website, or from the school office.
Please note, that if the number of out-of-zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.
