2. Looking for Distance Learners to Offer Input in New MCH Buddy System!
The Center for Leadership Education in Maternal and Child Public Health, along with the Maternal and Child Health MPH program, is looking to implement a MCH buddy system! Second year students will be paired with first year students, serving as a buddy and a guide through the student's first year in our program. We are currently seeking feedback from distance learners to help us understand how to tailor this program to both on-campus and off-campus students. If interested in offering your valuable insights, please email mch@umn.edu.

This new student group serves as a campus community for any student who is interested in MCH. The group will organize community service projects, hold monthly meetings for discussions about MCH related content, and will be a great place to bond with your peers.Please join us at our next meeting, where we will be watching a short documentary and bonding over some yummy treats!

6. Field Experience with Batey Relief Alliance in the Dominican Republic | Summer 2020

The MCH program in the Division of Epidemiology and Community Health has partnered
with the Batey Relief Alliance in the Dominican Republic, offering MPH students a global
health field experience in Maternal and Child Health with Batey Relief Alliance.
7. Title V MCH Internship Program
The National MCH Workforce Development Center is hosting the 2020 Title V MCH Internship Program from June to July 2020. Applications will open January 6th and be accepted through February 7th, 2020. At least seven teams of MCH trainees will participate in internships at various state Title V programs during summer 2020.

8. Diversity Data Deep Dive: Classroom Climate and Student Success

Diversity Deep Dive sessions were developed to utilize qualitative and quantitative data in advancing our school's institutional equity and diversity goals. All are welcome and registration is free. This event will also be live-streamed for distance learners - you just have to register!
9. Webinar: Partnering to Serve Pregnant and Parenting Youth in Foster Care– Lessons from an Illinois Pilot
Tuesday, November 12 | 2:00 - 3:00pm EST
Pregnant and parenting foster youth are underserved by home visiting programs. This webinar will describe the development and implementation of a home visiting pilot for pregnant and parenting youth in foster care, including findings from the evaluation. It will also include discussion of the implications of the evaluation for child welfare systems, preparing to provide preventive services under the Family First Prevention Services Act, and how other communities can promote collaboration between home visiting and child welfare systems. The webinar is co-hosted by the University-Based Child and Family Policy Consortium and the Society for Research in Child Development.10. 11. Hmong Health Conference

The Hmong Health Care Professionals Coalition is hosting another Health Conference in the topic areas of mental health. Topics include: school therapy, marriage and family, psycho-education and self-care.
12. Health Equity Job Panel

The Health Equity Work Group (HEWG) is hosting a Health Equity Job Panel. Students will have the opportunity to ask panelists about their organizations and their involvement in the community, addressing health inequities in the Twin Cities, and what students can do to prepare for careers in this area. The event is open to all students. A small continental breakfast will be provided prior to the panel, starting at 8:30 am.

14. Ethics
Every month we’ll send you information on MCH Navigator training organized around the 12 MCH Leadership Competencies. Each competency sits within one of three larger foci areas: self, others, and the community. This month we will focus on Competency #3: Ethics.
Ethical behavior in our MCH workforce includes conduct associated with generally accepted principles and values, including leadership ethics such as honesty, cultural competency, and responsibility.

The Nutritious U Food Pantry provides fresh and healthy food to students that struggle to get enough to eat. The Nutritious U Food Pantry is located in Coffman Memorial Union, room 210. It will be open from 12-6 p.m. on the following dates:

The aims of the Center include providing continuing professional education in maternal and child health (MCH) and support for students in online and in-person MCH graduate programs at the University of Minnesota. Center and MCH Program faculty are involved in research and training in infant and child health, adolescent health, family health, health disparities, reproductive health, and women's health.
