The Center for Leadership Education in Maternal and Child Public Health, along with the Maternal and Child Health MPH program, is looking to implement a MCH buddy system! Second year students will be paired with first year students, serving as a buddy and a guide through the student's first year in our program. We are currently seeking feedback from distance learners to help us understand how to tailor this program to both on-campus and off-campus students. If interested in offering your valuable insights, please email mch@umn.edu.

The National MCH Workforce Development Center is hosting the 2020 Title V MCH Internship Program from June to July 2020. Applications will open January 6th and be accepted through February 7th, 2020. At least seven teams of MCH trainees will participate in internships at various state Title V programs during summer 2020.

Pregnant and parenting foster youth are underserved by home visiting programs. This webinar will describe the development and implementation of a home visiting pilot for pregnant and parenting youth in foster care, including findings from the evaluation. It will also include discussion of the implications of the evaluation for child welfare systems, preparing to provide preventive services under the Family First Prevention Services Act, and how other communities can promote collaboration between home visiting and child welfare systems. The webinar is co-hosted by the University-Based Child and Family Policy Consortium and the Society for Research in Child Development.

The Health Equity Work Group (HEWG) is hosting a Health Equity Job Panel. Students will have the opportunity to ask panelists about their organizations and their involvement in the community, addressing health inequities in the Twin Cities, and what students can do to prepare for careers in this area. Every month we’ll send you information on MCH Navigator training organized around the 12 MCH Leadership Competencies. Each competency sits within one of three larger foci areas: self, others, and the community. This month we will focus on Competency #3: Ethics.

Ethical behavior in our MCH workforce includes conduct associated with generally accepted principles and values, including leadership ethics such as honesty, cultural competency, and responsibility.

Many of you may be starting to think more about your mental health and wellbeing as courses ramp up. You may be feeling stressed out and physically exhausted, which is very common. Please remember your mental health and physical wellbeing is critical at this time. There are free resources available for you, should you need them.

The Aurora Center for Advocacy and Education is committed to the belief that all people have the right to live free of violence and the fear of violence. Thinking about getting a graduate minor in public health? The SPH minors give students an opportunity to integrate a foundation in public health theories and practice. The SPH offers minors in: American Indian Health and Wellness, Biostatistics, Environmental Health, Epidemiology, Global Public Health, Health Equity, Health Services Research, Policy and Administration, and Sexual Health.
