The Wolverine Word
Monthly Community Newsletter -- vol. 1, ed. 2
A Note from Dr. Archambeau
Good afternoon, Wolverine Families!
Only two more days until the start of school! Our admin team, counselors, clerical staff, and custodians have been working hard this summer to prepare for a fantastic start to the 2024-25 school year. Below, you will find a wealth of information regarding the first couple days of school, transportation, parking, schedule corrections, and more.
Moving forward, I will be sending The Wolverine Word monthly to help you stay in the know about the great things happening at West! We are excited about partnering with you for the success of your student and are looking forward to an incredible school year!
Have a great day!

First Two Days of School
As we approach the start of the 2024-2025 school year, we wanted to take a moment and share important information regarding the first two days of school.
Bell Schedule
From August 1st through August 9th, we will operate on a 7-period day schedule. Starting Monday, August 12th, we will operate on our normal bell schedule. Below is a link to a printable copy of the WFHS Bell Schedule.
Lunches
Lunches are determined by which teacher your student has for 5th period class. We will share the lunch schedule during Wolverine Time and 4th period on the first day of school. Please be mindful that it may take a few extra minutes to get through the lunch line on the first few days of school as students become accustomed to being back at school.
Additionally, FCS is transitioning to utilizing a different meal payment system. Payments for lunches will no longer be paid through My Payments Plus. The new system is called My School Bucks and information regarding this new system can be found below.
Transportation
Bus Information
As for buses, our transportation department works very hard to ensure all of our students have transportation and arrive to school/home safely. Just know that routes for both morning pick-up and afternoon drop-off will run late. This is no fault of our transportation department but more a result of being short drivers and transporting tens of thousands of students each day. After the first week or so of school, bus routes will begin to run on time.
Your student's bus information, including pick-up and drop-off times, can be accessed in Parent Portal. Please be patient for the first few weeks of school as drivers solidify their routes. If you have questions about bus transportation, please contact our District Supervisor -- Mrs. Kelly Kurisko (770-667-2580 ext. 230508).

Car Rider Line
Please be mindful of the fact that the first couple weeks of school brings about a lot of transportation delays. The car rider line will be backed up and it will take a while to get through to drop your student off. If there is inclement weather, the car rider line will be even worse. So, please try to leave your house 10 - 15 minutes earlier than you usually would until things settle in.
Mandatory Car Rider Line Rules:
- There will be no student drop-off or pick-up in the following areas: gym lot, bus lot, stadium lot, or in the back by the tennis courts. All vehicles must enter through the main lot off Drew Road.
- Students must remain in cars until they reach the appropriate drop-off spot. There will be no drop-off in the middle of the line (even if your child is running late).
- Drivers must be fully attentive to traffic directors at all points of the car rider line. If using your phone, drivers must be hands-free.
Below is a link to a first-person look at how our car rider line operates.

Additionally, please see the map below to help navigate student drop-off and pick-up.
Cell Phones in the Classroom
Please be aware of the cell phone policy that will be implemented beginning this school year. In order to limit distractions during instruction and ensure students are engaged in their learning, cell phones and headphones/AirPods should be put away during instructional time unless directed by the teacher.
While we understand this will be an adjustment for our students, we appreciate your support in helping communicate this new policy to your students prior to the first day of school!
Attendance Matters!
Beginning of the Year Forms
Beginning of the Year forms were loaded into Parent Portal on Monday, July 22nd.
Please check Parent Portal for required permission and handbook sign-off forms. These should be signed off prior to the first day of school on Thursday, August 3rd.
This is also the time to double check all email addresses, mailing addresses, and phone numbers for your family’s household. Contact information should be checked and updated each school year to ensure that you receive important school messengers through your email or phone calls from teachers and other school staff. To do this, log into the Parent Portal and click “More” at the bottom of the menu.
Local School Council - Representative Needed
Wolverine Families,
We are in need of one parent to serve on the Local School Council (LSC). The Local School Council is an advisory body that provides recommendations and feedback to the school principal and the FCS Board. The West Forsyth LSC meets six times during the school year on Tuesday or Thursday mornings at 7:30 AM. All meetings and corresponding minutes are open to the public. Our LSC is comprised of business partners, parents, and teachers. One of our current parent representatives concluded their term at the end of last school year.
At this time, we are accepting an emailed letter of interest and a short candidate bio from anyone interested in running for Local School Council. The bios will be shared with our school community, which will vote on LSC membership. If you are interested in our parent council position, please send your letter and bio to Bo Brison at bbrison@forsyth.k12.ga.us. We will be accepting interest letters and bios through Friday, August 2nd at 3 PM.
Thank you,
Dr. Aaron Archambeau

Counselor's Corner
Schedules
Student schedules were released in Parent Portal on July 29. Schedule changes will only be approved if there are the following errors:
- Student already has credit for a class that is scheduled
- Student does not have a required prerequisite for a class that is scheduled
- Student needs a class to complete state graduation requirements
- Student has a period with no class scheduled
- Course is listed twice in a student's schedule
- Schedule shows “See Counselor”
In order to keep class sizes as equal as possible, we are unable to make changes to schedules for the following reasons listed below.
- Preference of lunch periods
- Preference of teacher
- Preference of class periods
- Preference of electives
Additionally, some students may see that they did not get their first choice of an elective. This could be due to several factors, including that the student has not completed the required prerequisite, the student requested an elective they are not eligible for because of their grade level, the elective is popular and a lottery system is used, etc. In these cases, an alternate elective is given.
Students should continue to check their schedules periodically, as we are still working from now until August 1st to balance class sizes and resolve reported schedule issues. Please note that the schedule that appears in IC today may not be the final schedule or teacher. ALL students should check their schedule again the night of July 31st. If an issue still remains in the schedule on Thursday, August 1st, students should report the issue to the appropriate counselor.
Dual Enrollment
If you applied (and have been accepted) to Dual Enrollment by the April 26th deadline, please read below:
The Dual Enrollment “Intent to Participate” form that was signed by parents stipulated that ALL Dual Enrollment students must be registered for their college class(es) before the first day of school (August 1st).
If any Dual Enrollment student has not contacted the college directly to register for their Dual Enrollment class(es), their class schedule will be defaulted back to West Forsyth High School in-person classes. Again, students should contact the college at which they enrolled to register for Dual Enrollment courses. All fall schedules are due to counselors by August 1st.
