LEARNING HIGHLIGHTS
It was another exciting week at Lincoln School. On Monday, in celebration of Autism Awareness Month, Pre-K classes enjoyed virtual performances from Kenny the Singer. Kenny is a musician and happens to be an adult with autism who finds joys in sharing his talents with others. On Tuesday, in celebration of Earth Day (April 22), we welcomed Dennis Regling from MagicSciencist.com to teach students about environmentally responsible habits. Mr. Dennis taught practical ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle; he also peppered in some fun magic tricks! Special thanks goes out to the PTO Executive Board for making our Earth Day Assemblies possible!
In Pre-K this week students continued the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Unit, discussing why recycling is important in preparation for Earth Day. They also explored 2 and 3-dimensional shapes, practiced writing numbers, and engaged in creative activities such as crafting an Earth and a butterfly. Additionally, in FUNdations, students focused on writing lowercase letters and building simple words to enhance phonics skills.
Throughout the week, Kindergarten students focused on developing phonemic awareness, mastering consonant digraphs, decoding and spelling three-sound words, and analyzing story elements in Fundations. In Readers' Workshop, they practiced retaining and sharing knowledge from non-fiction books, while in Writing Workshop, they crafted book covers on familiar topics. Math activities involved accurately collecting and graphing survey data, while in Social Studies, students explored animal care and global stewardship. Finally, in Science, they delved into understanding caterpillar growth and metamorphosis.

From the District
SAFETY AND SECURITY
Earlier this year, the district launched the Gaggle Safety Management System, which monitors students' Google accounts, including email and drive, for any signs of self-harm, cyberbullying, or other potentially harmful behaviors. Soon thereafter, we launched Speak Up for Safety, a safety feature that provides an easy way for students in grades 6-12 to anonymously share concerns about school safety and the well-being of their peers. Now, we have added an extra measure to identify students in crisis. This new feature monitors student web searches and browser inputs while the student is logged onto district accounts or devices. In all cases, any concerning content is flagged and forwarded to the administration for timely support and intervention, where necessary. As always, student privacy remains a top priority; all monitoring is carried out with the utmost discretion and sensitivity.
