If you Don't Stand for Something You Will Fall for Anything!! Read the memo.
Greetings ASASP Members,
When, where and how you choose to do your systemic "system-wide"professional development tomorrow is totally and completely Up To You. The memo is very clear from the Office of Professional Learning and Leadership. Be prepared on Monday to share your learning with your supervisor upon request.
This is just a friendly reminder from ASASP that you have A Choice. You Do Not Have To Participate in Any Meetings or Email Conversations at all on October 20th per the Office of Professional Learning and Leadership, the choice is yours, Not Anyone Else's .....per the following memo:
Have a wonderful weekend!

October 5, 2023 MEMORANDUM
TO: All Staff
FROM: Kristi L. Holden, Ed.D., Director Office of Professional Learning and Leadership THROUGH: Kristi Murphy Baldwin, Ed.D. Chief Human Resources Officer
RE: October 20, 2023, Systemic Professional Learning Day and PGCEA MSEA Convention
Research shows that building staff capacity to meet the needs of students requires first and foremost, supporting adult learners. According to the Professional Learning Organization, Learning Forward, “...adult learning has a direct and positive influence on increasing student achievement…and we know that authentic professional learning, in which adults are learning and growing and experiencing as they participate, can make a tremendous difference for adults, children, schools, and school systems.”
Thus, on Friday, October 20, 2023, PGCPS will engage in its systemic professional learning day for staff who are scheduled to work as identified by the work day bulletin. Also on this day, PGCEA members have an opportunity to attend the MSEA Convention. As we continue to align our work with the Strategic Plan of becoming a learning organization and a transformational workforce, we are, once again, implementing a reimagining of how the systemic day will look. On this day, we are asking that staff take time to engage in professional learning that will enhance work performance. We are providing you, as a professional, the opportunity for voice and choice.
While our professional learning days typically have a specific focus and office facilitator, on October 20, participants will get to choose their professional learning. There will be professional learning opportunities, both asynchronous and in person, from different divisions that you can register to attend or you can choose to engage in your own self-directed learning for your own edification. In support of Outcomes 3 and 4 in the Strategic Plan, we have two requests for the systemic professional learning day:
1. That you are prepared to share your learning with your supervisor and/or colleagues upon request.
2. Because we are all engaged in our own professional learning, we all refrain from sending and responding to emails and scheduling and participating in meetings (unless you are a PGCEA member attending the MSEA Convention).
The Office of Professional Learning and Leadership is committed to becoming a learning organization, and it is our hope that we will be able to engage in more activities that promote growth and development such as this.
You will receive a survey on Monday, October 23, to evaluate your experiences.
Please contact the Office of Professional Learning and Leadership at office.proflearnlead@pgcps.org with any questions.
