A Note From Mrs. Looman
- Family/Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, of next week. If you are unable to keep that time, please contact the front office to reschedule it. Also, a reminder that dismissal on those days will be at 12:30.
- There will be no school for current preschool and Kindergarten students on Friday, March 22nd. This will be our incoming preschool and Kindergarten registration day. If you know someone who will be eligible for either program, please let them know that a registration packet can be picked up in the front office.
- Mark your calendars! The district Celebration of Learning will be held on Wednesday, March 27 from 4-6pm at MTRS. Come check out what it means to be a Trailblazer! More information on the flyer below.
- On April 9th, there will be a community forum with Berk12, the group that is conducting the district's sustainability study. They are very interested in hearing from our community about what is important to us and what our non-negotiables are. The forum will be held at the school, with childcare available. There will also be an option to log in virtually. The feedback they receive from our communities will help inform and shape their recommendations.
The Colrain Central School Book Fair is coming! March 21st and March 22nd
What to know: We have a new vendor, Best Book Fairs. This is a Massachusetts-based company that focuses on great books! There will not be toys or other trinkets for sale this year.
In an effort to reduce the challenges that come with students bringing money to school (some students might lose their money or feel uncomfortable if they don’t have as much money as others), the format will be a little different - your child will visit the book fair once to make a wish list before Thursday afternoon. Your child will take this list home. Then the book fair will open for shopping during Caregiver-Teacher Conferences. Look for the Fair in the library this year and online shopping options will be available. This also allows students to follow a normal schedule during the school day, with a focus on typical routines and learning.
We are accepting donations to help students who might not be able to buy a book.

PTO News
- Thank you to those who have already signed up to help feed teachers during conferences! Perishables can be dropped off during the school day on 3/20 or at the start of school on 3/21. Please label donations PTO/ conferences. Thank you! - The April meeting will be on Monday, April 1st at 3:30 in the staff room.
- There is a solar eclipse coming up on April 8th. The PTO has purchased eclipse sunglasses so that it can be viewed safely. The are also working on organizing a "Watch Party" for after school that day. Stay tuned for more information about that.

Covid Test Kits Still Available
The school has Covid rapid test kits available for families to use at home.
If you would like some, please reach out to Nurse Viney to have them sent home in your child’s backpack, or stop by the school during school hours.

News from MTRS for Grade 6/ Rising Grade 7 students and families
Greetings 6th Grade Families,
Below is a list of events to provide information and prepare students and families for the transition to middle school:
March- Classroom Visits: Guidance counselor and principal, accompanied by former students, will visit each 6th grade classroom and provide information about life and opportunities at MTRS:

March 27th - District Celebration of Learning at MTRS 4-6pm: This will be a great opportunity to see the school and to meet current students and staff and to find out more about the clubs and activities available to MTRS students
April 10th - Welcome to Grade 7: 5:30-7:30pm: Information and Ice cream for 6th grade families
June 3rd - Step Up Day: Grade 6 students from the district, as well as Rowe Elementary, will come to MTRS to meet teachers and experience a morning at MTRS

Student Art Show & Family Reading Night
Volunteers needed!! We’re looking for parents, grandparents, caregivers, or members of the community to be guest readers during our upcoming Family Reading Night on May 10. Volunteers will read a favorite children’s book or two to a gathering of Colrain families. Please consider volunteering and share the joy of reading to children! The event will take place right after our Student Art Show (5:00-6:00), from 6:00-7:30 (reading sessions are about 15 minutes each). Please contact Jennifer Martin at jmartin@mtrsd.org if you would like to sign up.
CALL FOR BOOK DONATIONS!! Another fun aspect of our Family Reading Night is our FREE book swap for all ages! We’re looking for donations of gently-used books for children AND adults. Boxes will be in the front hallway and by the back door, or your child could bring donations to Ms. Martin’s room. Clear out those shelves!
