Northumberland Hills Newsletter
April 2025
Dear Northumberland Hills Families,
We know that the recent outages have been challenging for many in our community, and we want to take a moment to acknowledge the difficulties some of you may have faced. Whether it was disruptions to daily routines, communication challenges, or unexpected hardships, please know that we are thinking of you.
As the warmer days of spring arrive, we’re excited to see students enjoying the fresh air and outdoor activities! With the changing weather, we’d like to remind families about the importance of dressing appropriately for the season.
Spring temperatures can be unpredictable—chilly mornings, warmer afternoons, and the occasional rainy day. Please ensure your child comes to school dressed in layers so they can adjust comfortably throughout the day. A light jacket or sweater, comfortable shoes for outdoor play, and rain gear when needed will help them stay comfortable and ready for learning and fun.
We appreciate your support in helping students stay prepared for the season! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Wishing you a wonderful spring!
Warmly,
Peri Dowsley
Early Reading Screener Family Letters
Last week, families with students in grades SK, 1, and 2 received a letter indicating the results of the second round of early reading screeners. Please note, this time around, only letters for students for whom screening was required a second time were sent to families. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact your child's teacher or the school.

Important information from OPP
The OPP is currently processing background checks submitted in January. Due to a high volume of requests, the current turnaround time is approximately seven weeks.
To avoid delays in the future, we recommend completing background checks during the summer to ensure you're prepared for the school year.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation!
Student Use of Cell Phones Reminder
We want to remind you that cell phones are not allowed in class or during recess. To help create a focused learning environment, we encourage students to leave their cell phones at home. If your child does bring one, please remind them that is to remain stored in their backpack at all times.
In the event of any issues, we will reach out to families and follow KPRDSB’s policies and procedures.
