Students of the Month
Leo Zhang is an outstanding student with a 4.00 GPA, an AP Scholar with Distinction, and a member of the Honors and AP program. He has consistently made the Principal Honor Roll and ranks in the top 12% of his class. In addition to his academic achievements, Leo is an accomplished athlete, serving as a team captain for the swimming team. He has achieved several recognitions in swimming, including being a CIF D2-D3 Finalist, a League Finalist, a League Champion, and a CIF State Qualifier (2024). He has also received the Golden Raider Award twice. Leo is also an active member of the SkillsUSA club.
Outside of school, Leo completed an internship as a Project Leader Assistant at a software company. He is also involved in community service, having donated food to the homeless in November 2023.
After high school, Leo plans to apply to UCs and Cal States to pursue a major in Computer Science and continue his swimming career in college. He aims to gain industry experience through internships and aspires to compete at the highest level in swimming, with the ultimate goal of representing the United States in the Olympics. Additionally, he has ambitions to work in the motorcycle industry with companies like Yamaha or Kawasaki.
Allison Cho is an excellent student in the Honors and AP Program. She ranks 12th in her class with a 4.21 GPA and has earned High Honor Roll (1) and Principal's Honor Roll (6) every semester. Throughout her high school years, Allison has been actively involved in leadership roles. She served as Class President from 9th to 11th grade and she is the current ASB President. Additionally, she holds leadership positions in various campus clubs such as President of the Korean Club, Vice President of UNICEF, and is currently working with Superintendent Flores and Ms. Urbien to start the RUSD First District Youth Advisory Council.
Beyond her school activities, Allison is deeply engaged in her community. She founded the Youth for Earth Coalition, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting global citizenship through environmental literacy. Furthermore, she serves as the Policy Director for the nonprofit organization What We All Deserve, actively involved in advocating for social safety net expansion and broader economic justice. She also holds the position of Policy Director for the California High School Democrats. In her free time, she has interned for Senator Bob Archuleta and Assembly member Lisa Calderon. Allison has also been an active participant in the Junior State of America, serving as the So Cal Speaker of the Assembly and founding the RHS JSA Chapter to promote youth civic engagement.
Looking ahead, Allison plans to pursue a degree in Political Science, with aspirations of attending law school on the East Coast after completing her studies in Southern California. Her ultimate goal is to become an attorney or a professor in Political Science.
Senior of the Week
Beyonce Felix Barahona has been nominated by April Escalera. "I want to take a moment to recognize Beyonce for her incredible kindness and positive spirit. Her hard work and caring nature truly set a remarkable example for everyone around her. She is also someone who is very dedicated to her academics and she always strives to do her very best! I am so grateful to have such a wonderful student in our community.
Athlete of the Week
Ximena Avilez was chosen as the cheer athlete of the week for her dedication to the team. Ximena always puts the team’s need before her own and works very well collaboratively with her co-captain to create fun dance routines for the team. Ximena is a great cheerleader and we are lucky to have her in the team.
Scholar of the Week
The English Department nominated Joshua Kim for Scholar of the Week by Mrs. Chu. In AP Lit, Joshua participates daily in class discussion and never hesitates to share his interpretation of a text. You can always count on him to also volunteer to read and respond to questions posed in class. Not only does Joshua work on fine tuning his analytical skills, but he also actively works at improving his writing skills in order to further his interpretation. Joshua embodies the qualities of a Raider - a thinker in analyzing texts, a communicator in class discussions, and a contributor in his active involvement in class and also around campus.
