STAAR Testing
Grades 6-8 RLA - April 15th
The Grade 6-8 RLA STAAR test will be administered on Tuesday, April 15th. Due to testing, we will have a closed campus that day. To give students ample time to test and ensure the best testing environment for our students, we have an alternate bell schedule for April 15th. Please note, we will not be able to call any students down during testing so students cannot be picked up early while the test is being administered.
We ask that you do not allow students to bring pillows or blankets on the day of testing. Students will not need backpacks for the day. Their teachers will provide them with all the materials they need for their classes after STAAR testing. Your student only needs their lunchbox, water bottle, and any healthy snacks they would like to eat during the test. Please avoid snacks that make a lot of noise to open or eat as these noises distract other testers.
Check out the tips from our counseling team to help your student overcome test anxiety. You can help your tester do their best by making sure they have a good night’s rest and eat a healthy breakfast on the morning of testing. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Cornett at Katherine.cornett@boerneisd.net. The testing schedule is included below for your reference.
VMS Transportation Committe Updates
The VMS Transportation Committee had their first meeting on April 8th. Our committee discussed parameters beyond our control and possible solutions to improve the efficiency of parent drop-off/pick-up. It is important that everyone knows the constraints that impact our campus.
There are several parameters that are beyond our control that impact transportation.
- TxDOT controls the light at Hwy46 & Voss Parkway – VMS staff do not have the ability to control the light at Hwy 46 and Hwy 3351 or at Voss Parkway and Hwy46. This light is controlled by TXDOT. To ask questions or give feedback on the light you can contact TXDOT at AskTxDOT@txdot.gov.
- Funding - Any improvements in transportation efficiency at VMS must not incur any additional budget costs.
- Second Entrance/Exit - At this time we do not have a second entrance/exit so we must create solutions with all cars and buses entering the property at the light on Voss Parkway.
- Buses in the Front Loop – The asphalt in the front of the school is not thick enough to have all buses on the front loop. Bus pick-up/drop-off location at VMS cannot be changed.
- Non-Walking Campus – Due to the lack of sidewalks and proximity to Hwy46, VMS is a non-walking campus. We cannot allow students to walk off campus and be pickup at an alternate site.
Our committee members came up with a new drop-off/pick-up plan they would like to pilot. We will send out maps and pictures of this plan over the next two weeks and begin piloting the change in drop-off/pick-up procedures on Monday, April 28th. We will get feedback from all VMS families prior to the end of the year so we can make our drop-off/pick-up as efficient as possible for the 25-26 school year.
25-26 VMS Registration
It’s that time of year again, enrollment is now open for the 2025-26 school year! Completing your registration is important because you are telling us your student(s) are returning next year. This information is necessary for staffing purposes and to tie your student’s course selections with their enrollment. Please log in to your Skyward account and register your student(s) TODAY.
Once you are in Skyward, navigate to the Family Access on your dashboardand complete the tile.
NOTE: the tile will disappear once it has been submitted. If it turns orange and is still present on your dashboard, it has not been completed and submitted.
If your dashboard reads: New Student, when you login, select the house icon, then select Family Access. The last day to register a returning student is the last day of school this year, Thursday, May 22nd, 2025.
The registration process is not compatible with mobile devices, meaning you must complete the process on a computer. You may also experience challenges if using Safari as your browser; please use Google Chrome, it is most compatible with Skyward.
You may contact your campus registrar, Sheila Fenton sheila.fenton@boerneisd.net if you experience a problem or do not see the necessary icons on your account.
If your student will NOT be attending/returning to Voss Middle School next year, please let us know.
Please disregard this email if you have already completed registration or already informed us of your intentions of not returning.
Student Council
In honor of Shell 77, the VMS student council is hosting a craft week competition among the advisories. Each advisory can plan and create some type of "craft" that represents "Voss". It could be a phrase, symbol, word, eagle, etc. The winning advisory will get a pizza and treat party sponsored by student council. All crafts will be on display for Shell 77.

One Act Play
We are very proud of the VMS One Act Play students. They gave an incredible performance and won many awards at the One Act competition held on Saturday, April 12th. Congratulations to our students winning individual awards, Avery Croft (Best Tech Award for her Assistant Directing role), Carys Kapellusch (Honorable Mention), Sadie Steinke (All Star Cast), Chris Backman (All Star Cast), and Haley Faulkenberry (All Star Cast). This was one of the best performances our One Act students have ever put on. We are thankful for the dedication or Mr. Gonzalez and his theater students!
Orchestra
VMS orchestra will perform in the middle school Solo & Ensemble Recital at BMSN on April 26th! The program features over 60 separate acts from orchestra students at BMSS, BMSN, and Voss. Our orchestra directors and private lesson teachers will also perform. The Orchestra Team has put in a ton of legwork preparing for this recital. They are excited to show off the high level of playing and vibrant musical culture present in our Orchestra Programs for the whole community to appreciate and enjoy. The recital is from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM, but audience members are free to pop in and out at five-minute intermissions every 30 minutes.

Our 7th grade boys beat Medina Valley 5-3. The 8th graders tied 1-1 in a gritty game.
VMS Staff Shout Outs
Mrs. Walls (submitted by anonymous student) – Thank you for your hard work and dedication I appreciate your patience and support and your lessons have made a real difference in my learning.
Ms. Carpenter (submitted by anonymous parent) – Ms. Carpenter is an AMAZING math teacher. Math has always been hard for my daughter and she is excelling in her class! She said it is because she teaches so well and in a way that she understands and has patience to answer questions! Thank you Ms. Carpenter from a sincere mom that is happy to not have to spend hours reteaching and helping with homework. :-)
Would you like to celebrate one of our VMS staff members? We would love to hear your feedback on the amazing things our teachers and staff members are doing to help students and make VMS the best middle school in Texas. Please feel free to give a shout out to staff here: VMS Staff Shout Outs.

See Something, Say Something
School safety is very important, and it's up to all of us to work together as a team to prevent bad things from happening.
If we all stay alert and work as a team to report dangerous or suspicious activity, we can help keep our schools safe.
