Bear Blast
January 10, 2025
Happy Friday to you! We had a good first week back after the break. Losing power for almost two hours during lunches yesterday was pretty eventful! I want to thank you all for communicating with me if you were on your way to get your child, this helped us expedite the process. And I want to give a huge shout out to the Bradley staff for reacting so quickly to my directions on how to navigate the outage; and a shout out to our students for how they handled themselves. The students were amazing! Everyone handled it with grace, a sense of humor, and a willingness to jump in and help out in every way possible. Bradley is so special; I will continue to say that to everyone who will listen.

Reset for the semester with your child by partnering with us to teach and guide our Bradley Bears to be self-reliant and resilient.
At Bradley Middle School we recognize that developing the learning skills needed to lead the world of tomorrow is an awesome responsibility. Our mission is to ensure high levels of learning for all. We believe that to create good thinkers and good learners there are specific skills and behaviors involved. Students must learn how to critically think, and problem solve. In addition, they must learn how to monitor their own learning (self-monitor) and to be persistent when they don’t understand (metacognition). These skills take time and practice.
The Bradley Faculty and Staff have collaborated to create this guide to help your middle schooler become an independent and responsible learner. We will be using this document on campus as part of our school-wide approach to learning. Middle schoolers should learn how to monitor their own learning and advocate for themselves. Your conversation, support, and guidance with your middle schooler is pivotal to ensure success during these years. We recommend that you use this guide as a family to help your middle schooler transition through these years. Our hope is that by the time they finish middle school, they have developed the ability to conduct this process on their own.
The general idea is to select a day of the week in which you will sit with your middle schooler to review their progress in Skyward. Bradley MS has selected Tuesdays as our campus day. There are three items that we recommend focusing on when reviewing Skyward. These items include failing test scores, missing/blank grades, and missing/failing projects/essays. Please have your student drive this process. Review the document as a guide to have your child create a plan, schedule tutoring, and/or send emails to their teacher each week. Help to guide your middle schooler to execute their plan of action by having them set an alarm or maybe post a reminder on the refrigerator. If they do forget, that is okay. Building resiliency takes practice. The campus tutoring schedule can be found on the NEISD Bradley Website.
Bradley Middle School PE Online Store
Last chance to order from the PE online store. This will remain open from now until Tuesday, January 14th. *NOTE - THIS IS ONLY FOR PE UNIFORM.
NEW NEISD Policy
Discretionary Placement: Failure to Comply with Administrative Directive
● Starting Jan. 6, 2025, at our middle and high school campuses, students suspected of possessing a prohibited item, who run away from an administrator to avoid complying with a lawful search, could be sent to the North East Alternative Center.
● This decision comes as principals and other administrators have noticed an increase in students fleeing or refusing to comply with lawful searches, often following the suspicion of vaping on campus. While students refusing or fleeing isn’t common, it is increasingly becoming a problem.
● When a student refuses to be searched or runs from administrators, it undermines the safety protocols we have in place to protect everyone. These actions pose potential risks not only to the individual student but also to the broader school community. We are enhancing the consequences for students who engage in such behaviors to reinforce the importance of safety and cooperation. These consequences will serve as a deterrent, encouraging students to comply with safety measures while promoting accountability. We must provide a clear message that cooperation with school staff is essential for the well-being of the entire school environment.
Board of Trustees Presentation:
● This update applies to a small number of students suspected of having a prohibited item and refusing to be searched or flee from an administrator.
● Over the past few years, administrators have faced greater challenges when addressing some disciplinary incidents including:
○ Students fleeing from them when directed to do otherwise
○ Students concealing items on their person and refusing to allow the administrator to search them when legally allowed to do so
○ Parents instructing their students to not comply with legally allowed searches
○ Current disciplinary measures, such as In-School Suspension and Out-of-School Suspension, do not effectively deter this behavior
● When a student refuses to be searched or runs from administrators due to possible possession of a prohibited item, it undermines the safety protocols we have in place to protect everyone. These actions pose potential risks not only to the individual student but also to the broader school community. We are enhancing the consequences for students who engage in such behaviors to reinforce the importance of safety and cooperation.
● Fleeing students may pose a safety risk to the school due to the potential possession of drugs, e-cigarettes, weapons, or other prohibited items
Dear Parents/ Guardians:
On January 23, 2025, every Bradley 8th grader will have the opportunity to tour his/her designated home campus high school. Home campus is based on the current address of record - either Churchill HS or MacArthur HS- regardless of whether there is an intent to apply for school choice.
All Dual Language students will visit MacArthur HS, regardless of address, unless we have received written notice that your student will not be participating in the Dual Language program in high school.
Permissions slips were given out on November 20th and are due by December 6, 2024, to your child’s history teacher.
Any student not returning a signed permission slip will have to remain on campus as required by NEISD - NO EXCEPTIONS.

NURSE UPDATES & INFO
ATTENTION 6TH GRADE PARENTS – Did you know your child is required to have certain vaccines in order to start 7th grade in the Fall? While it may seem far off in the future, I aim to give you plenty of time to give your child’s record to the School Clinic or make an appointment for vaccination, if needed. Your child is required to have record of a meningococcal vaccine and a tetanus booster to begin 7th grade. The tetanus booster must be from within the past 5 years. You can see your child’s current vaccinations on file with the school by logging into Skyward Family Access and clicking on the ‘hamburger’ -> Health -> Vaccinations. You can send records to Nurse Stintzi at jstint@neisd.net or drop them off to the school.
REMINDERS:
If your child needs to use crutches, a wheelchair, or the elevator while at school or have activity restrictions, you must provide a doctor’s note indicating specific needs (use of elevator, crutches, etc.).
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call the Clinic at 356-2603 or email Nurse Stintzi at: jstint@neisd.net.

BRADLEY DRESS CODE
*NEW JULY 2024*
North East ISD’s Student Dress Code is designed to ensure consistency and uniform application of standards that are necessary to support the overall educational goals of the school. The student and parent or guardian may determine the student’s personal dress and grooming standards if they comply with the general guidelines outlined here and support the overall learning environment by emphasizing standards of neatness, cleanliness, and safety in dress and grooming. School staff shall enforce the Student Dress Code consistently with all students regardless of race, sex, gender, ethnicity, culture or religion, household income, body size/type, or body maturity.
Note: The Student Dress Code applies to all students while attending school, school functions, or school-sponsored activities on or off school property.
Exceptions to the Dress Code will be communicated through your school principal.

· Costumes of any type are prohibited unless expressly approved by campus administration.
Extracurricular Activities
The principal, in cooperation with the sponsor, coach, or other person in charge of an extracurricular activity, may regulate the dress and grooming of students who participate in the activity. Students who violate dress and grooming standards established for such an activity may be removed or excluded from the activity for a period determined by the principal or sponsor and may be subject to other disciplinary action, as specified in the Student Code of Conduct.
Dress Code Enforcement
To ensure effective and equitable enforcement of this dress code, school staff shall enforce the dress code consistently using the requirements below.
School administration and staff shall not have the discretion to vary the requirements in ways that lead to discriminatory enforcement. Campuses may have a more restrictive dress code with approval from the Campus Improvement Committee and the Department of School Administration if a more restrictive policy aligns with the “Purpose” defined in the policy.
· Students will only be removed from spaces, hallways, or classrooms because of a dress code violation as outlined in Sections 1 and 4 above. Students in violation of Section 1 and/or 4 will be provided three (3) options to be dressed more to code during the school day:
o Students will be asked to put on their own alternative Student Dress Code-compliant clothing.
o Students will be provided with temporary school Student Dress Code-compliant clothing.
o If necessary, the student’s parent or guardian may provide Student Dress Code-compliant clothing.
To the extent possible, student violations of the Dress Code are to be addressed discretely and respectfully by all staff members.
The school principal will make the final determination as to the appropriateness of dress. Any student who chooses not to comply with the dress code will be removed from the classroom setting until the student complies with this code.
